Eat, Drink & Be Merry

Guest post by: Linda Sage

Article Overview: Henry VIII was often heard to say Eat, Drink & Be Merry, but when he over indulged in any of these things and his mood changed it may well have been another of his favorite sayings “Off with his/her Head”. Luckily for us times have changed for the better, no beheadings and no thirty course banquets, washed down by gallons of mead, wine and port. Thankfully many of the illnesses that went along with that time in history such as scurvy, plagues, and typhoid are a thing of the past, but unfortunately gout is still very much present in our modern day world.

Eat, Drink & Be Merry

Henry VIII was often heard to say Eat, Drink & Be Merry, but when he over indulged in any of these things and his mood changed it may well have been another of his favorite sayings “Off with his/her Head”.

With all the technological advances and medical knowledge at our fingertips gout seems to stand the test of time; being present not just in elder generations or one gender, or any particular social standing. Still the common denominators are food and drink added to a lack of exercise over a period of time causing this very painful illness. So a very preventable infliction which unfortunately once you have had it leaves you prone to reoccurrences.

March leads us into three national celebration days St Patrick’s Day, Mother’s Day, and as we are in Spain San José Father’s Day. These make it very easy to get into the celebration mode, along with the continual birthdays, leaving, arriving, and charity dos on our social calendars. Making a concentrated effort to control what we allow to pass through our lips and into our system is a never ending battle. Because of that we often choose to laps….just this once, twice, three times and on it goes then we wonder where the excessive bulges come from.

Alcohol adds many calories and slows down your metabolic rate making it harder for your system to process the nutrients through your body. It also dehydrates your organs, so toxins stay in the system longer making illnesses such as gout, IBS, Colitis, Kidney Stones and Diverticulitis more likely. Ensuring that your system is hydrated well with water and making better choices when eating out on a regular basis will help your body in the short term and your health in the long term. Helping you to enjoy many more celebrations in the years to come,

Most restaurants will be happy to let you share a pudding or wrap up excess food for you to take home don’t be worried about asking many people do. Enough is as good as a banquet any day and your system will not be overloaded, making you feel stuffed, bloated, tired or sluggish and unable to enjoy the rest of the day or evening.

Enjoy the celebrations and in April we can look forward to chocoholics paradise!!!!
