Here I am, sitting at home with the sun streaming through the windows and it is gone 7pm, what would I be doing now if I was in the UK???? Probably grappling with the traffic on the M25, or hunched over reports that had taken over my dining room table as well as my office room, the breeze is warm heralding the coming months of summer, the only blot on the idyllic picture is my green pool!!!! But hey life is not perfect is it??? Or should we be expecting life to give us happiness, and then we can also blame the Government, the neighbours, the children, the economy, our partner for all the things that are wrong in our lives too!! Great cop out,

Everyday we have many opportunities to be thankful for where we are, what we have and who we have around us, but whilst it is all tickatiboo we take it all for granted, when the difficulties come along, we feel “why me” and look for other people or things to blame. Many people send many hours looking to place blame, if the same energy was being used to look for solutions to the challenges, things would not look as hard. We are all in the places that we are because of the choices that we have made and the decision we have taken, so we do deserve to be exactly where we are, taking responsibility for that and then choosing to do something about it is a major step forward.

Challenges to an architect only prove to make him look for more innovative ways of building, or we could still be in caves, engineers step up to a challenge every time they build a bridge or tunnel over or under an obstacle, or our journeys would still be taking many hours more. Drs are researching new medicines and surgeries to help prolong, save or enhance our lives, if they had not battled science then we would still be amputating with axes and pulling teeth with pliers.. Technology has opened a new world for many people and most people now are more used to jumping on and off of planes rather than buses.

So, why do we still expect others to be able to find happiness for us? And love us when we don’t love our self? Acceptance of the person we are makes life so much easier. And offers each of us a good place to start any relationship, and building block to face changes and challenges, these are the things that make us grow as people, finding hidden strengths and depths that we would never look for if life was smooth everyday.. Ten years ago how many of us thought we would be talking into a mobile phone smaller than the palm of your hand, or having free conversation via computers anywhere in the world, shopping or banking without moving off of the sofa, all of these have been challenges that we have learnt to cope with, so why are others any more scary?

No taking things, people or time for granted, but enjoying them all along with the challenges that comes with them, helps all of us see the best in the world around us and gives us more confidence in our own ablilities to cope with them as well. Looking back over life it is easy to say “I wish I had” or “I could have”, try and rise to each challenge and look at the positive things that you can learn along the way. Then there are no regrets, no blame just self knowledge and self worth.
