Life’s Highway
Continuing
along life’s highway, we come into contact with many obstacles, all of which
are said to enhance us a people. I have
had some very “enhancing” people in my life so far. Just when I was starting to
think that I was learning from all my previous lessons, yet another new
“enhancement” comes along!!! I know – it
is just to keep me on my toes, not to get bored or complacent, maybe “quiet”
for a while would be a nice option, but clearly not yet….
As I have
been navigating around the manic drivers, (people diving into relationships too
quickly), drunk drivers (those who need a bit of liquid support to break
through their own barriers), tail
gaiters (those that want to take over your life and show you how to live), the policeman (those who know what is better
for you and want to take you by the arm along their chosen path) or maybe the courteous
one comes along now and again, to prove that even rules have exceptions!!!
Learning to
make choices and believe in yourself after several collisions is a hard lesson,
but with time it does get better. Even a
very nervous driver can start with very short journeys. (Building your social
confidence in a local area), before heading off to the Motorways and a new
horizon in life.
I was at
this junction, just deciding what destination was beckoning, when the behaviour
of another driver totally confused me, being in Spain we do get used to the odd
driver coming towards us on the wrong side of the road, but in a relationship
when somebody does just that a head on collision is almost inevitable. I was recently introduced to new terminology “Selective
Lies”, Selective Hearing is a common term and I must admit useful at
times. But the definition of Selective
Lies is…”I did not lie, but did not tell you everything”……interesting
observation, which in itself does seem
just to cut the other person’s choices down, as they do not have all the facts
to make an evaluation and a decision.
Keeping somebody in the dark about part of your life, when there is
supposedly trust, and confidence does seem a bit like taking a Cash Dummy out
for a picnic, not much point really!!!
Relationships
like driving needs working on, from the novices of youth, to veterans many
people have come across a variety of changes, throughout their personal
journeys. One thing is sure nobody has
gone through life without some snarl up, mishap or error of judgement, learning
to use the signs and communication will always make your journey easier and
safer. Sharing the navigating and
driving when you have a passenger works wonders, as it gives both of you
chances to improve on all your skills, to say things as they are and what you
see, so the picture is much clearer for the other person as well. You can then both enjoy the views and take
time to know what is important to the other.
Love is a
four letter word, respect does not have a lot more, but it makes such a
difference, just think if every driver respected the other how much easier the
roundabouts would be……..
