Article Overview: From a very early age we are all looking for affection and approval, as the baby cries it knows somebody will come, to feed, clean or soothe. The child learns to smile sweetly, dance, draw, give hugs and kisses to get their own needs met. The teenager, when coming from their private planet their favorite phrase is “mum you know I love you” or “mum you know you love me very much”, usually followed by a request for money or a lift somewhere!

Looking for Love
From a very early age we are
all looking for affection and approval, as the baby cries it knows somebody
will come, to feed, clean or soothe. The
child learns to smile sweetly, dance, draw, give hugs and kisses to get their
own needs met. The teenager, when coming
from their private planet their favourite phrase is “mum you know I love you”
or “mum you know you love me very much”, usually followed by a request for
money or a lift somewhere!
After the transition to
adulthood and grown-up relationships with another “grown-up person”, life gets
more complicated. Meeting somebody new, you scrub–up and put on your best
manners, thus the honeymoon period starts; this is lovely, romantic even, doing
things together, meals by candlelight and talking into the wee small hours.
Getting to know past histories and life stories, listening with rose coloured
specs, so you can edit out any bits you don’t want to hear, opening a new horizon or not as the case may
be (good stage to get out if you have any doubts, that little voice should be
listened to-though we usually don’t).
Getting over the nerves and the constant need to pull the tummy in!
yields into the more comfortable and relaxing part of a new relationship, close friends are now included into the
“relationship”, all of whom no doubt have opinions on the subject and most
choose to share them! Especially unhelpful at the stage is introducing somebody
new into your circle of friends and they get comments like “when should I buy a
hat!” – great, that really helps, even brave people look for the nearest exit
(even if they don’t use it)….
After life has dealt you some
ups and downs you tend to want to take things steady, act cool and smart – haha
as if that is possible, all the while butterflies are batting around in the pit
of your stomach and the adrenalin is pumping through the veins, your feeling of
wellbeing glows along with your new Cheshire Cat smiling image, all of a sudden
the world is a much brighter and nicer place. Self confidence that had taken a bashing soars
and self esteem that was always making you look backwards to previous times,
now makes you appreciate yourself more and brings your head into looking
towards the future with positive anticipation.
Meetings are more frequent
and all methods of communication bring sparkles into your lives, (even ones you
have never used before – or that had previously been only used by the teenagers
in the household-now they complain that they can never chat to their friends
and the comments are reversed – how long you going to be on there & don’t
know what you find to talk about all this time!) This is fun…..for many a long
time coming back into your life, but worth the wait.
Now you are back on the road
to building a compatible relationship, but like all roads a roundabout comes up
with several options of direction, so where do you go from here?? Round the
roundabout and back down the road you know (safe, secure, but not always very
happy), first exit – quick fix, dive in for a full on romance, maybe burn a few
bridges, second exit – straight on, see where this goes, third exit – the
scenic route, hills and dales so some acceleration but also lots of use of the
brakes, maybe getting to the destination in the end – or maybe going round the
roundabout a few times, studying the choices; whatever way you go, is a better
choice than staying where you are and not moving on.
So, what exit shall I take,
where am I going from here???……..
