To Dream the Impossible Dream

Article Overview: "To dream the impossible dream, to right the unrightable wrong that is my quest" What happens when your dream is somebody else's nightmare? Having made my debut into the Costa Blanca Social Scene, (quite successfully - I felt), well I did end up at home, in one piece, (maybe a bit wobbly), I was enthused to participate more. So, during these two weeks I have made a concentrated effort: 1 party, 2 Business Meetings, 5 bars (not all with vino), 1 tarot reading (I need all the help I can get) and a meal out with a friend (not male).

To Dream the Impossible Dream

"To dream the impossible dream, to right the unrightable wrong that is my quest" What happens when your dream is somebody else's nightmare?

Having made my debut into the Costa Blanca Social Scene, (quite successfully - I felt), well I did end up at home, in one piece, (maybe a bit wobbly), I was enthused to participate more. So, during these two weeks I have made a concentrated effort: 1 party, 2 Business Meetings, 5 bars (not all with vino), 1 tarot reading (I need all the help I can get) and a meal out with a friend (not male).

My self-talk is improving, head held high, smile, even eye contact with the general public, all of this due to my new dream (little does he know). Each day I breeze happily through, just to get to the weekend, when we can meet again (not that he is aware of this). Having been into the bars during the day, somehow it is not so scary to go back at night. The big day arrives, preparations for the evening start at 9am, (just in case). Going through the daily tasks until 7pm, when my glittering world will explode; setting off today I feel confident, competent and elegant.

So far, so good; no backward glances, or slow steps today, a "hello" here and there, as I can see more faces now that I am not rushing through the bar. My friends are there, greeting me they say I look "glowing", (little do they know my secret). No need for vino, water is my wine of life (need a clear head). As the bar fills quickly, several faces are familiar, but a rollercoaster ride is going on in my tummy, as none are the face (well eyes) are the ones I am looking for. The clock ticks on, how long can a minute be?

Then, bingo! Christmas, Birthdays have all arrived together, I stand taller, (tummy in), blood churning in my veins, giving my face a little colour (my friend notices the increased colour asking if was having a hot flush) undeterred in my dream, I am waiting for a huge warm welcome (as I am prepared this week), but all I get is a slight nod, no glints, major smiles or fireworks!

The little voice starts, "how could you be so stupid and so wrong", but I know better than listen, so squash that voice - the night is young..... The atmosphere is good and people mill about (mainly going to and from the loo). I enjoy the company, even have a dance or two, (major improvement for me). But, still I am no closer to my dream evening. At long last, eye contact and he speaks, as he pushes his way past only to disappear out of the back door. A huge wave of nausea hits the pit of my stomach, disappointment engulfs me, and my newly found smile fades, along with my enthusiasm. My dream is shattered! (not that he was aware of it - of course).

Personal imagination is a powerful tool, dreams, or goals can generate the enthusiasm and motivation to move us onto new experiences. No life should be without them, especially if you want to make changes in any areas of your life. These have to be your dreams, for you, with your choices; you cannot logically base any of your own dreams on somebody else's choices; it just might be their nightmare. Shared dreams/goals which you have discussed between you make them a common dream/goal. Then, you have a combined effort to work towards the same outcome.

As children we are full of dreams and hopes, life takes its toll and some lose their shine, but if we take time to find some new ones, shine them up with, desire, enthusiasm and creativity, who knows, where we can get to!

Re: What is one of your favorite sales and marketing book? Re: What is one of your favorite sales and marketing book? - Great post. I love biographies. My favorite book is The Magic of Thinking Big. It's such a quick, easy read. But the big take away message is you should dream big because most people don't bother to dream big and actually try big. The book cites the example of a job posting for an executive position gets far fewer responses than a job for a mid level manager or a mailroom clerk. So Dream Big & Do Big because most people won't. Off to get the Zappos book.
Re: What inspires you? Re: What inspires you? - Inspiration is nothing it is what you called to do? Some work for money, some work for satisfaction, some work because they have priorities in life. It is the passion to do something for achievement or to show that you can do it by using one's talent. I know there are people who are doing great things with their limited skill sets. So, my view point about inspiration is to Dream Big and try to achieve it. I would rather add "Listen to your self". Listen to Inner guide and follow it. You will reach great heights. Robert
