NLP Model of Communication--4 Pillars to Getting Desired Results
NLP is the acronym for Neuro Linguistic Programming. The study of excellence in communication (with yourself and others) in order to create the results you want!
NLP started in California in the early 1970's at the University of Santa Cruz. The founders were Richard Bandler, a master's level student of information sciences and mathematics and Dr. John Grinder, a professor of linguistics. Their focus was to study people they considered excellent communicators and agents of change.
They identified four pillars of NLP.
The first pillar is Rapport. This is one of the most important gifts that NLP has given us. When you are building a relationship with others and with yourself you want to build rapport. NLP teaches us great techniques that we can use to quickly gain rapport with individuals who we deal with at work, in our day to day family life or strangers we come across who we want to build rapport with quickly and easily.
The second pillar is Sensory Awareness. The ability to perceive or experience through the lens of our own 5 senses. Do you notice when you walk into someone's home or a new store what you see - the colours and décor, or do you hear - music playing or people talking or do you smell - food cooking, or do you notice flowers blooming. Each of us notices different things and uses our sensors to experience life. NLP helps us understand how each of us views the world and assists us in better communicating as a result of understanding how we perceive the world vs how others may perceive it. Asking questions and observing reactions or by knowing how a person processes information helps us better understand them and hence results in better communication with them.
The third pillar is Outcome Thinking. This is about knowing what you want rather than what you don't want. NLP provides you with tools that help you take charge of your life, in order to focus on desired outcomes and hence achieve the results you want. It helps you remove negative thoughts and beliefs and focus on desired goals instead.
The fourth pillar is Behavioural Flexibility. If something isn't working for you, it’s about being flexible and changing your behaviour. Every minute of our day, we take in millions of pieces of information through the 5 senses. At the conscious level, we simply can't deal with that much information. So our mind filters the information we receive into chunks of 7 plus or minus 2 chunks containing about 130 bits of information a second. So what happens to the rest of the information, well we delete, distort or generalize it. Each of us will filter the information differently as we all view things differently based on our personal values, beliefs, attitudes, memories, past experiences and decisions.
NLP is described as both an art and a science of communication, the key to learning and it's about what makes you and others tick. It's also been described as the route to getting the results you want in all areas of your life.
NLP is about increasing the choices available to you. Building rapport with others, developing an acute sensory awareness, increasing your focus on outcomes and honing your behavioural flexibility will empower you to new heights and enable you to achieve your desired goals and outcomes. Anything and everything is possible if you set your mind to it.
Change is up to you!

Re: Franchise 'due diligence' checklist
- One of the things I focus on is this:
Does the Franchise fit the Business Model you are interested in?
Meaning, are you going to be doing what you want to do on a daily? For example, if you are a restaurant manager now and you hate your job because of the hours, then don't buy most food franchises. You have experience of course, so it is more comfortable, but you will basically be doing very similar duties and hours as you were before.
I always go through a series of questions, answers, more questions, more answers etc... to help my clients figure out what Business Model they are most interested in, I do this before even discussing a single name with them, they tell me what the business model is and then I match them up to that type of business, explain the entire business model as best I can and then and only then do we discuss the name of the company. Too many times people come to me wanting to own "abc" name brand franchise, when they don't even understand what type of business it really is and what they will be doing every day.
Run a major competition
- You beat me to the punch LoveInventions! I was just on my way to post this!
The idea is simple: run a competition for a major prize to get people posting. In this case Darren put up a $729 Nikon DSLR up for grabs as the top prize. The winner was selected randomly and each post you wrote gave you another chance to win.
[quote:1nc4sv0r]The Goal - the aim of the exercise was simple. To sign up new members to my forum and increase page views. My hope was to have a bumper month but also get new members signed up to have an ongoing impact on overall activity going forward.[/quote:1nc4sv0r]
[quote:1nc4sv0r]Results: Traffic - Over the full month traffic was increased 66.7%.[/quote:1nc4sv0r]
[quote:1nc4sv0r]Results: New Members - Recruiting new members to the forum was another goal of the competition. We’d had an influx in January of 1803 new sign ups as a result of a previous smaller competition but since had been around the 1200 per month. April however saw a boost in numbers by an extra 2823 members.[/quote:1nc4sv0r]
[quote:1nc4sv0r]Results: Activity - Another bonus related to increased traffic is the increases in user activity on the forum. Here’s the increase in new ‘threads’ to the forum (up from the 1500’s to just over 4000 for the month). And here is the increase in new posts (up from 1400 per month to over 43000 for the month).[/quote:1nc4sv0r]
[quote:1nc4sv0r]
The Downside
So far it’s sounding fairly rosy isn’t it. Increases in traffic, members, activity and even earning are all good. However there was two downsides.
1. Moderation Workload - I have an amazing team of moderators to DPS but the month of April was the hardest that they’ve ever worked. I totally underestimated the extra load upon them in setting up this competition. It has made me reconsider how I run future competitions.
2. Impact upon Quality of Reader Interaction - over all the increased activity of the site brought in some wonderful new members who are interacting on the site with genuine interaction. However a small number of new members were just there for the competition - even though I made it clear that spammy entries wouldn’t win. This impacted moderators workloads but also the overall morale on the site a little. I think we managed to contain it but again - next time I run a competition it’ll not be based upon post numbers but rather some sort of quality level of interaction.[/quote:1nc4sv0r]
What do you guys think? Is it worth testing out? Considering we already give out over $1,000 in month prizes, what would be the ultimate prize that we award at the end of the competition?
Re: Why do people hate Network Marketing / MLM?
- You make a great point abotu the sales industry GT. Unfortunately, sales businesses have a really high attrition rate. From car salesmen to real estate or insurance agents, anywhere from 60-80% (depending on the chosen market) fail and quit without ever making a single sale. Since most people think of MLM as a sales business, it's no wonder the attrition rate is that high or higher.
The fact is, MLM is NOT a sales business. It's a PEOPLE business, or more specifically, a Coaching and mentoring business.
As for an example, I do have one, as you would expect. But, rather than pitching my company here, I would suggest learning the basics of what makes a successful mlm company. A mentor of mine, Michael Dlouhy developed the 5 Pillars to Network Marketing. If the company has all 5 pillars, you can almost guarantee success. If not, the chances are not good. Michael developed this over 20 years ago. He knew MLM could work, but had no luck himself. SO, he joined over 100 companies in under 2 years just so he could compare and see what worked, and what didn't.
Bottom line, you need a 5 pillars company if you hope to be successful.

Patent Walk-Through
- Hello everyone!
My name is Alex, I'm 18 years old and I'm constantly drawing up new ideas and inventing stuff. I sketch stuff down everywhere I go and on anything I can write on. I'm a big member of our local Future Business Leaders of America chapter (FBLA). In the future I hope to work my way up to being a Venture Capitalist. I think of myself as a pretty creative person who is very motivated. Some of the ideas and inventions I come up with are pretty far out but others I consider marketable and to have great potential. Being 18, I have little to no connections and no resources. I've been surfing this site pretty frequently for the last year and have finally decided to join the forum group.
Anyway, here's my question...
Basically, I have no idea how to get a patent together the costs and the overall process. As of now, I think I have a great idea that, as far as I know has not, ever been done before. I'm really excited about this idea. I'm a total novice at this and am willing to learn all that I can. Any information that you can provide me with would be great. Again the main things I want to know are:
1.Overall Process.
2.How Long It Takes.
3.Costs.
4.Anything That You Think I Should Know.
5.Tips/Experiences.
6.Confidentiality.
7.Must I Make A Physical Model of My Idea?
Thanks guys!
