3 Easy Ways to Fail at Sales - By Kathleen Aston

Sales...EEEEKKKK! Why it is that so many brilliant entrepreneurs can do everything (including color-coordinating the thumbtacks on their bulletin board...) but they can't pick up the phone to speak to potential prospects to bring revenue into their business? It's simple-FEAR. Fear of...yep, you guessed it rejection. But also fear of a whole host of other things including: not being good enough; not being worthy enough; not being smart enough; appearing sleazy or pushy; and the list goes on and on.

So who cares, right? YOU DO! Why? Because without sales....without getting this FEAR under control...you are most likely going to be out of business. You will self-fulfill your fear...you will fail.

If you're going to fail at sales...and then most likely fail in your business, I want to make sure get on with it quickly and easily!

How to Fail at Sales Now!

  1. Don't spend time discovering where your fear actually comes from. This means you need to ignore any impulse you have to dig in to some self-discovery. Whatever you do...don't stop yourself so that you have time to think on it. Keep going, keep cleaning your files, creating products, emailing, Facebook-ing, Tweeting and doing laundry on your lunch break. So if you want to keep struggling to make your business profitable...here are the TOP three things I recommend you do.
  2. Do NOT, under any condition, take action. You see, taking action would move you closer to your goals and your dreams. You might end up successful. And in actually starting to realize some success, you might unknowingly tap into a hidden personal fear that you would have to address posthaste! Yes, fear of success is as powerful as a fear of failure. If you took any kind of action, that would diffuse the physical, mental and emotional energy you're using to fuel the fear...and it would start to fade. And you must stay in FEAR to fail.
  3. Keep accepting the word, "NO", as a personal negative reflection on your abilities, services and self-worth. If you would take a new approach, that "NO" really just means, "Not now," or "Not for me," then you might realize that "NO" is a blessing and just allows you to get on faster to those who will say, "YES!" However, you must keep associating, "NO" with the emotion of personal rejection and failure. You must use your FEAR of NO to keep you paralyzed and unable to pick up the phone, step out to a networking meeting, or send that VITO email or letter.

Ok, well I think that does it. I promise if you just do these three things every day, you will fail at sales. Don't believe me? Well, then just take some action and see what happens. You'll start to succeed! And then what would we do!

Oh, you don't want to fail? Then this is the cold-hard truth. You must start to understand what fear or fears are stopping you from presenting your products or services in a powerful way to prospects. You have to come to that understanding though a systematic self-discovery. Once you can name the fear, you can begin to take steps to overcome it. Taking action is the ONLY way to nullify fear before it nullifies you.

Stand strong. Take Action.
