Business Plan: Key Points

How do you go about creating your own business plan? Know where you are today and where you want to go..

So, you know your own business ideas/goals, and you have looked over your competition - but you have little or no specifics on how to put together a business plan? Let's get started, then.

The act of planning helps you think things through thoroughly, study and research if you are not sure of what you want or need, and enable you to take a look at your ideas analytically. This type of researching of your own business and market planning also helps you articulate and be able to speak more easily about your business. It takes time now, but will avoids costly mistakes, and chaos later.

One of your first steps is to get familiar with what some essentials needed in your business plan.

Now take a look a the different pieces of the business plan, that I know you've heard about, maybe took a stab at, but really need to get going on for your own serious success:

-- Mission Statement: Many companies have a brief mission statement, usually in 30 words or fewer, explaining their reason for being.

-- Your Vision Statement A description of the business, a mental image as you want it to be and where you want it to be in 6 months, 12 months, etc.

-- Goals and Objectives: Goals are destinations-where you want your business to be. Objectives are progress markers along the way to goal successes.

-- Business Values, Beliefs: What is important to you in business?

-- Who will you market your products / services to? Who is your target audience?

-- Describe your products / services in-depth - as you see them.

Next describe your products / services from your clients' point of view.

List all of your major products or services.

• Describe the most important features. What is special about it?

• Describe the benefits. That is, what will the product / service do for the customer?

Note the difference between features and benefits, and think about them. For example, a house: gives shelter, lasts a long time is made with certain materials and with a type of design; those are its features. Its benefits include pride of ownership, financial security, providing for the family, and the neighborhood. You build features into your product so that you can sell the benefits.

-- Who is your competition? You can research on google, using the keywords and study at your competition.

Business planning isn't just a stuffy old idea - it is deeper than that. Writing out your own plan, writing out action steps taken from this, and then actually starting is part of you growing into your business and understanding yourself as you work with your ideas of business for yourself.

Business Innovation Business Innovation - Hi Simon If you can finish off the Business Plan and think about your strategic direction or how you are going to use your product to convince people it's a great idea, it will set the foundation for your programming project. You see, when you are looking for funding you will need a Business Plan and Strategic Plan that will convince companies to invest into your new idea. Has anyone achieved this idea before using another industry besides health and fitness that you know of? You should also design some mockups as a "preview" for your programming project. This will also help reduce your programming costs as everyone will know exactly what you want if you have detailed mockups already completed including any functionality you require. Starting mockups for websites and software applications on paper is the best way if you're not a guru in graphic editing software.

I will take a look, but hope that this video as number 1 in a series. It is unfortunate that these types of errors, the most basic of errors as you point out here are common to too many business plans, having reviewed a few hundred myself from both a development and funding perspective. As a mentor and workshop facilitator for Business Plan development for a number of start-up IT and multimedia companies, your presentation help support and show how the VC's see and evaluate a plan Shameful, that too many don't take the time to learn how to properly prepare, present and defend their plans. Over the years, I have enjoyed Business Plan competitions, and help re-work some of the winning proposals
