Instant Playbook For Tomorrow’s Presentation

It’s easy to wait until the last minute. With a crazy-hectic schedule, insane clients and urgent requests…who has time to plan a business presentation in profound detail? Get ahead with 3 bold moves from an expert’s playbook.

If it’s the night before your big day, and you just haven’t made time, don’t despair. Just use this short checklist to get ready for public speaking. This is a last minute playbook that is sure to win results.

By the way, this checklist is not for the ‘faint at heart.’ Some of the recommendations are here as emergency medicine. After all, you’ve waiting until the final hour. So, your choices have changed.

If you don’t like the choices, do them anyway. And then mark some extra time before your next presentation so you can have more options, more possibilities, and more flexibility in your approach.

Play 1. Be The Synthesizer

Sit in on everyone else’s presentation. Find two or three best moments from other presenters. Use these to create a ‘formula’ on the spot for your audience.

The Formula will be a combination of the best of the best. It may look like: 1 + 1 = Success. Or 1+2+3 = Success. Organize your ideas to highlight themes that resonated with your audience.

Result: you’ll provide valuable synthesis for your audience. And you’ll come out looking really smart…not like you waited ‘til the last minute and were unprepared.

Play 2. Be The Visualizer

Forget about slides. Opt for a marker and a whiteboard. Sketch out the key ideas of your message. Interact with the audience. Invite questions. Write these questions down. Illustrate the ultimate solution with colorful sketches and key words—while the audience watches.

Result: You’ll appeal to the 65-80% of people in your audience who are visual thinkers. You’ll use whole brain problem solving to show-and-tell with poise and creativity. You’ll look great and add terrific value.

Play 3. Be The Storyteller

Forget about slides. Ditch the whiteboard too. Just bring in props, demos and physical evidence. Use your evidence to show-and-tell a compelling story. Best bet here: involve the audience. Encourage people to get their hands on everything you’ve brought in to show.

Hint: This is a lot like when you went to the beach and brought sand, shovels and shells into your kindergarten class. It may have been a long time ago. But it was a hit, right?

Result: You’ll appeal to kinesthetic learners who want to get involved with activities and hands-on learning. You’ll also get people up out of their seats for active experiences and interactive discussion. You’ll be a welcome relief from the boring talking heads.

Not too shabby for last minute choices, right? Sure you need to pump up your confidence. Yes, you must take on the challenges of doing something different, even outrageous. That’s how you will stand out as unique.

Remember: your team may start to notice if you always pick the same play. But these plays will save you in the final hour from the supreme embarrassment of having to admit that you’ve waited until the final hour to prepare. Hey, now it’s easier to get a good night’s sleep.

Want to boost your confidence and give masterful presentations? Go out and use your new plays to win results.

Re: Poll: Video Marketing Online, Do you use it? Re: Poll: Video Marketing Online, Do you use it? - Hi GT, One of my goals for this year is to start using video over the summer. I checked the "actively researching" box as I have been looking into it in the last six months with that in mind. I have practical experience with making videos as that is what I do with my "English Presentation" students at college in their second term. Earlier this year, I used iMovie on my Mac OSX to make a DVD stringing together edited versions of the students' presentations, so I'm OK with the technical side... It's the production side that is more of a challenge at the moment!
niche forum categories niche forum categories - I think Kevin just touched on the point that I was going make... and that is developing 'categories' that stick. Sales and Marketing may be too broad for example. However I can almost guarantee you that you would see many more sign-ups if you tailored a category to 'internet marketing' for newbies. I've seen this work on other forums, however, [i:1i903wkn]it can get a little frantic[/i:1i903wkn]... Fine tuning the categories, or expanding the scope should be effective. I think a lot of IM folks are surfing right on by because they're not finding what they're looking for here... Just a few thoughts: Better Blogging Developing Info Products Internet Marketing Presentation Skills More How to's Another point is... a lot of people don't know that they can benefit from participating in forums. The signature links to their site - if they have one - can / should be motivation enough to get more involved. The more internet savvy members that have signatures seem to stick around more... Don't you think?
Re: Public Speaking and Presentations Re: Public Speaking and Presentations - Hi Annette, Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your passion. I suppose if you include teaching and lecturing, as well as weddings and a funeral, and some acting, I've built up quite a lot of experience of public speaking. I also teach "English Presentation" to several classes at a women's college here in Hiroshima. That can be quite a challenge due to the language level and for the most part the complete inexperience of public speaking on the part of my students. Great fun to teach, though. I seek to encourage them and to build up their confidence, and also give them feedback about posture, fidgeting (hands in hair seems to be a favourite distraction), sniffing loudly while reading/speaking and so on... Giving that kind of feedback without embarrassing people can be quite a delicate task so I wonder if you have any "easy to understand tips" about helping with confidence and posture etc. Best wishes, David H
Re: What Keyword research methods do you use? Re: What Keyword research methods do you use? - It's a little outside the box approach, but I use Google's own Instant Search to pull up initial list of keywords. Then I click on each search result to go deeper. I use them something similar to forming Ad Groups for Adwords. If I want to build an authoritative site, and my niche happens to be "dog training", I will build pages for "dog training collars", which will be built on "how to use dog training collars", "dog training collars on amazon". Then start second group, which consists of "dog training schools"... This way, I will be building more authoritative and complete site for "dog training". I will build pages according to the structure I made up for each group, using WordPress. Start building links back to these pages, and over time, I can build a site that harnesses the power of organic search results. I have done this "tedious" process among a few of my sites and they have been proven effective.
