Your First 100 Days-4 Fast Ways To Shine

You got the job. After filling out the piles of paperwork, you have to wonder. Now what? How will you make your first 100 days so powerful that you make a great impression? Bravo!

You did it. You got the job. Now, just imagine you have a private cheering squad in your court. Let's get to work so you can start strong and make a terrific impression.

Do you feel at home yet? The next 100 days in your new job are crucial. Like ‘dress for success' there's another way to impress your boss, new team and coworkers. Simply put: present for success.

Most likely, you know that public speaking is considered the #1 fear of most people. That means when you show up ready and delighted to present, you'll stand out as unique.

Your team will notice. Your direct reports will notice. And, your boss will see that you're a terrific employee. When you feel comfortable in your job, and giving top notch presentations, your first 100 days will be a breeze.

Here's a few tips to transform the ‘testing' phase into a highly rewarding experience.

Tip 1. Sharpen Your Listening Skills

Listen closely. Listen for verbal and non-verbal cues. You're working in a new culture, new team and new work environment. Things are likely to be different than your previous job.

By listening first, you'll be in a stronger position to know what people expect and want.

Tip 2. Improve Your Written Communication

Watch and learn from your teammates. You may have been used to a particular style of written presentations. This may be more or less formal than what is expected in your new job.

By learning the ropes from your colleagues, you'll quickly adapt to the norms of your current organization.

Tip 3. Focus On Non Verbal Communication

Clear communication often happens before you ever open your mouth. Your posture for seated and standing presentations communicates volumes. Focus on these very important unspoken cues.

Tip 4. Notice Meeting Standards

Learn how to conduct yourself in meetings. Meeting norms and standards vary widely across different organizations. Some are more formal. Others more conversational...even casual or informal.

You may be used to one style and less familiar with another. What works best in your new organization?

Watch out for old beliefs, habits and thinking. These could pull you down and make it challenging to adapt to your new culture.

Pay especially close attention to how people in your new organization conduct themselves in different types of meetings. Are standards different during meetings with colleagues, different departments or teams? Discover the standards for meeting conduct to excel when meeting with clients and prospects.

By focusing on new norms and standards, you'll have a powerful roadmap for success. Your presentation skills in the first 100 days will build a solid foundation for success. With this as to build on, you will be sure to get recognized as an exceptional employee.

Re: What If Steve Jobs Hadn't Returned To Apple In 1997? Re: What If Steve Jobs Hadn't Returned To Apple In 1997? - Thanks for sharing with us Yinko. Steve Jobs is definitely a visionary. Not only his products are innovative in a technological sense, but he's managed to turn a tech-company's products into a lifestyle.... a lifestyle!! [quote:zfqoq43n]Fast Forward to today. Apple has the sexiest products in the business: iMacs, Macbooks, iPhones, iPods and more.[/quote:zfqoq43n] I think not only tech would be different (music players and phones), but ways we can think of marketing and branding. What Steve Jobs did was of course no easy task for the smaller businesses, but he did start somewhere. What I did not know was that Apple is worth about as much as Google. How do you think Apple accomplish what they did? In terms of strategy wise? If you could advice Steve on one thing, what would it be?
Where to print a book Where to print a book - [quote:39vg8s93]So, writing a chapter a day, I finished in a month, and Kidpreneur: Genius Ways for Kids to Pay For College was born. Currently my book is self published -- I just printed up 100 copies to give to all the people featured in the book, teachers, and some more to sell at $20.00 a piece (it costs $10.00 a copy at Kinko's, so it's not really an outrageous price). [/quote:39vg8s93] If at all possible, you need to stop using Kinko's now and go price some real printers. It should cost only a couple of dollars a piece, if that, to print your book. Admittedly you'll have to buy in bulk, but the overall savings - selling a $2 book for $20 so that you make an $18 profit instead of a measley $10.... is something every kidpreneur should think about!
