Cash Goggles: “It Pays to Play”

Cash Goggles: “It Pays to Play”

To be successful in business, it’s important to remember what worked in college…all night parties!

So, you’re grumbling to your business associates, “I do everything right…by the book, and I just can’t close the deal.” Lighten up, Man…your problem is you don’t know how to party!

This strategy is so important that I’m going to tell you again. Remember how in college, the later it got in the evening, the prettier the women became, and the more daring the dudes got about their plans after college? We called it "beer goggles". The later it got, the better the world and its possibilities.

Well, I’m convinced the same thing works in business. I call it cash goggles! People are more open to making a deal when they are having a rocking good time and they feel as if they have bonded with the person who is making the pitch. Nobody wants to do business with somebody they don’t like.

So here are my strategies for closing the deal:

Party over here! Develop a reputation for being someone who is fun and who knows how to have a good time. Invite your prospects and your leads out for the evening. Show them how to have a good time and that you appreciate them.

Wait for it Sometimes closing the deal just takes time. Most client prospects like to feel as if you want to spend time with them and that you value them. They want that one on one attention. You can’t rush in…make a pitch, and turn ‘em loose. You must cultivate a professional relationship with them and earn their business and their trust. Be patient.

Just Walk Away Having said that, closing a deal takes time. This doesn’t mean you devote all your time and talent to one potential client. Some potential clients are a royal pain in the ass! They are a time drain and they are never satisfied.

Studies show that businesses tend to spend 90% of their time on 10% of their clients. You know who they are, they are unhappy and needy. While the saying is true, “The squeaky wheel gets the grease,” let them go somewhere else. You gotta know when the potential client is toxic and just walk away.

Love ‘em and leave ‘em Be fun to be around and nice to everybody. If you don’t like the person you are dealing with, find another client. Life is too short to suck up to some miserable asshole just to close a deal. Either find a different contact within the company, or go court their competition!

You don’t turn into a pumpkin at midnight! Like I said in the beginning, if you cultivate a relationship with a client and you are having a rocking good time, don’t worry about the hour. Your goal is to spend enough time with the client to have ‘the conversation’ about your product or service. Don’t worry if it takes some beer and some war stories to get you there!

So the next time you are mining for new golden clients, put on your cash goggles and have a party! Be fun, approachable, and friendly. Always keep your eyes open for new deals. The only way to be happy in business is to make money while enjoying your life!

Willing to Fail Your Way to Success Willing to Fail Your Way to Success - Entrepreneurs in my opinion, must be willing to fail. (This is that risk-taking factor quoted in the other post). If you aren't willing to fail then you don't take risks and if you don't take risks you do I like to call (I am qouting an awesome book called Play to Win!) 'Playing Not to Lose' instead of 'Playing to Win'. When you Play to Win you must risks. Risks are how you build a business and innovate.

How does one suggest improvements to inventions How does one suggest improvements to inventions - and get paid for them? I'm sure people write in and complain and suggest new features for various things they buy... and if those changes are implemented that's all well and good, but the person who made the suggestion for the improvment isn't going to get paid for it. How does one suggest these improvements - and get paid for them? ----long story One of the best things the PC did (at least, Dell) was to color code all their little plugs, so you know that the green plug goes into the green hole, the pink into the pink, etc. Makes setting up those things a heckuva lot easier! I was thinking that the same thing should be done for today's TVs! I've had a new TV for a few weeks, set up next to my computer because I like to work and watch TV at the same time. But I've got it set up in such a way that I can't see all the little buttons on the top of the screen, which are the buttons for Stop, Play, Eject (for the internal DVD) , the Volume up and down, and the Channel up and down. Of course, that wasn't a problem when my remote control worked, but for some reason it stopped working a couple of weeks ago. (Yes, I replaced the battery - no good). Since I have the TV so close to my computer it's no problem, I can reach out and touch the buttons... But because they're all the same color, I had to actually get up and look at them to make sure I was pressing the right button. I've solved that problem by attaching a bit of yellow paper to the Play button, and a bit of orange paper to the Volume Up button. Makes things a lot easier...
