Article Overview: Every couple of months I look at my idea and information files because I want to actually use the information I've put aside. I'm almost paperless, so my dual purpose here is to use it or lose it. These are the sparks for future action and creativity. I call it ‘information inspiration.' Here are three action steps you can take to put your idea files to good use:

What’s in Your Files? Putting Good Ideas to Use Can Help Your Creative Juice
Coincidentally, October is National Clean out Your Files Month. When was the last time you looked at your files? Do you have "idea" files for information you filed a long time ago thinking that there would be come a day when you could use it for a project? Yes? My clients often say that they were "looking for this just the other day," but they didn't know where they put it! Is that happening to you?
Every couple of months I look at my idea and information files because I want to actually use the information I've put aside. I'm almost paperless, so my dual purpose here is to use it or lose it. If I don't at least look at it from time to time, then I won't know whether or not now is the time to be putting some of those great ideas to work. These are the sparks for future action and creativity. I call it ‘information inspiration.'
Here are three action steps you can take to put your idea files to good use:
Take time now (or soon!) to review what you have. Get a cup of coffee or tea and settle into a quiet time when you can review the electronic or physical information you set aside a long time ago. You may find a lot you can toss/delete, but you also may find a great idea, something that fits into what you're working on now or something you need to take action on.
Build a trusted system for your files. As you review your information, clear out what you no longer need, use, want or love and organize the rest so you can find it later when you want it.
Look at your files on a regular basis. That's why you saved them right? If you add a reminder on your to-do list to review your files every month, or every 3 or 6 months, then you'll be sure to keep your files up-to-date, free of clutter, and you'll have more space for the useful ideas that you can put to good use.
So get your creative juices flowing - you never know where it might lead!
