Rules Of Life

Many of us have at one time or another encountered nuggets of wisdom or seen a book recently touting how to conduct ourselves properly in business.

For others, it was a grandparent, aunt or uncle whose philosophies we listened to as a child.

For many of us, those lessons have stayed with us over the years, serving as stepping-stones to success in both business and life.

But today, things are not that simple – or are they?

With our lives moving ever faster and our careers demanding more, do the simple truths in life therefore become invalid?

Or, are they timeless values that no amount of change and progress can alter?

Let’s look at six rules of life that are not only timeless, but can serve us well.

Respect The Other Person’s Point Of View Whether You Agree With It Or Not.

Difficult to remember sometimes in heated moments, this rule can work wonders.

We all want to be respected by others, having our own point of view seen as legitimate. Yet it can be easy to discount or neglect the importance of others.

The most important aspect to remember here is not what their viewpoint is, but how we treat it.

Treating others with respect can open many doors that would otherwise remain closed.

Consider Life A Privilege.

Something to remind ourselves of every single day, this is another usually forgotten as circumstances become more unforgiving.

Yet, this one is key to turning life back around. It’s easy to see the privilege life is when everything’s smooth. It’s our responsibility to remember it the rest of the time too.

Let your actions be guided by this rule in both business and life and watch what happens.

Give Up The Islands That Reinforce Mediocrity.

Way too many of us live in a “box” these days.

Our mission should be to spring ourselves out of the box and aspire to greatness.

But being great doesn’t always mean famous. It means being willing to never settle for second best in ourselves, whether others notice it or not.

Take A Chance – Put It On The Line.

If you knew today was your last day alive, would that what you did and why you did them?

Chances are you’d drop things unimportant and only focus on what really mattered.

Why wait? Tomorrow never does come. There is only today.

Go for what you want. Never give up.

Work For Satisfaction Rather Than Credit.

So much of what many of us do is focused on shadow rather than substance.

Doing something for recognition instead of for the deep satisfaction it brings is mostly counter productive.

Strive to do something every day that no one else knows about, yet gives you satisfaction simply because it was the right thing to do.

Keep Your Word.

Saved for last because it’s the most important.

Fail in this and we fail in the rest.

As humans, we really have nothing other than our word.

Make sure your word matters. Make sure you keep what you say and say what you keep.

Re: Charge what you're worth Re: Charge what you're worth -
People will pay you what you ask. Very few will ever up the price. You are the one who decided what you are worth. The key is that we believe our services are worth the price we are asking.[/quote:292ze3jd] Hi Tami, You're absolutely right. In "Think and Grow Rich", Jessie B. Rittenhouse says "For Life is a just employer, He gives you what you ask, But once you have set the wages, Why, you must bear the task. I worked for a menial's hire Only to learn, dismayed , That any wage I had asked of Life, Life would have willingly paid" (Napoleon Hill 35). I think the same can be said when setting prices on eBay or Craigslist, especially when people are trying to haggle you.
Re: Favorite Christmas movies Re: Favorite Christmas movies -
I do have to say I've never liked[i:1rxsgr0t] It's A Wonderful Life[/i:1rxsgr0t]. He spends all his life having his hopes and dreams shattered, feeling miserable, and its only at the end of his life that he can look back and realize how many friends he has, etc. But that doesn't change the fact that up until that point he was miserable![/quote:1rxsgr0t] I love the sentimentality around watching that movie with your Mom! Chtistmas is made up of all those sentimental things. "It's A Wonderful Life" is all about perspective, much in the same way that Scrooge is 'realigned' in Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" - which I listen to on CD every year (sometimes twice!) Happy Christmas Everyone! Regards Martin
