Miracles, life and business lessons Part II

MORE LESSONS:

Here are some more business and life lessons. Believe it or not, people generally want to help you, so don’t ever be afraid of accepting help. There is kindness in this big world of ours. Never let others see you sweat. Take things in stride…and if worse comes to worst, there is always a good bottle of Scotch nearby at the local LCBO, and in this case they had one right at the gas bar of all places. How convenient!

So…Rob…my new found mechanic and friend, lent me 2 batteries and the cables that we had hooked up to my car battery and once again, off I went to Ottawa. For the first 30 minutes, all looked good…until…I hit Manotick…man-o, man-o, Manotick…

PART THREE:

Manotick is about 20 minutes outside of Ottawa. As I drove along Hwy 416 into Ottawa, my car, with it’s 3 batteries, went dead again. The lights went off, the power died…and I found myself dead once more along the road in front of some stranger’s house at 9:30 pm on a cold Friday night in March…

Luckily, I had cell phone service but had no clue where I was. So I knocked on the door of the house I was outside of. I don’t know about you, but if someone knocked on my door at 9:30 pm on a Friday night, I doubt I would answer it. Well sure enough, someone did. It was a young guy, smoking dope with his friends…which was cool…because he was mellowed out…thankfully. He was in an alright mood and let me know exactly where I was so I could have my sister pick me up. In fact he spoke to my sister and gave her directions to where we were.

Then, my new friend informed me that his neighbour was a mechanic and had a shop right next door. He called his neighbour and handed me the phone so that I could explain my dilemma. Dave, the mechanic in Manotick, assured me that he could fix the car the next day and that he’d call me with an estimate, first thing Saturday morning. My car broke down in front of a guy’s house literally right next door to a mechanic’s house. I mean how amazing is that luck?

MORE LESSONS:

Here is another life and business lesson: The Universe is always supporting us no matter what goes wrong. Good things eventually do happen, and when you look at the big picture. no matter what goes wrong in our life, there is always hope of a better tomorrow.

Well Saturday came and Dave the mechanic called as promised. He gave me an estimate and by 1 pm that afternoon, my car was fixed and ready to go with a new battery and alternator. I got in a great visit with my mom and sister and got to experience the kindness of others and the miracle of life all on “just another trip” into Ottawa for the weekend.
Miracle number three!

FINAL LESSONS:

Here is my last life and business lesson for today. When I got home, I made sure that I sent thank you notes to all those who had helped me out. It’s always important to show your gratitude in more ways then just saying thanks.

So next time you have a problem facing you, don’t panic, have a back up plan in mind, ask for help, be nice to others, reward those that help you, know that the Universe is always on your side and show gratitude. This is a wonderful winning formula!

Cheers

Balance - Make time for things you love Balance - Make time for things you love - To kick things off in this new forum category I wanted to share with you some of the lessons I learned from Jim Cathcart. Jim's simple message is to make time for the things that you love. No matter how busy we get in life, no matter how ambitious we are in chasing our business dreams, we still need to make time for the things that we love - be it family, friends, music, motorcycles, etc - whatever means something to you. If you don't make time for those things then you're bringing less to the table. If you're just a business machine then eventually you will burn out and have an empty life. Jim recommends finding time every day to doing the things that you love. It will give your life more meaning as well as make you happier. In my life, for example, I committed to spending more time with my family and I now only go into the office from Monday to Thursday. I'm home on Fridays and spend time with my wife. I've also created a journal where I try to do something meaningful for someone in my life every day. It could be a heartfelt thank you card to someone who helped me, clipping and mailing a news story to a friend who would find it interesting, or surprising my wife with chocolates. I find that by doing something every day and by being home on Fridays I've been able to increase the quality of my life and my business has also grown in the process. What have you done to make time of the things that you love?
Lemonade Stand Lessons Lemonade Stand Lessons - How about parents exposing their children to business early on? Business can be a boring subject to children but how does a parent make it fun. There is so much to be learned in life from business lessons but it can be dry to a child. Does a parent expose it thru a lemonade stand experience? how does the parent explain in a fun way that the reason no sales are being made is due to location or advertising??

BEFORE YOU DO! BEFORE YOU DO! - Hi forum, I read a book recently which has really made my days as an entrepreneur. The book was just released to the market and written by Bishop T.D. Jakes with the title: "BEFORE YOU DO". It taught me about decision on everything business, life, finances e.t.c. I found this book so timely and a good read for anyone who want to forge ahead in business and life. If I may ask, how are you deeply taking your decison on every investment, life and others? Every decision you made points to a direction at which your life and business will go.
