Travel Savvy: BagFinder (Luggage tags) & HandleWraps

by Anne Garber

Every once in awhile, apparently clever travellers make a fundamental mistake. Take me, for example. I'm a seasoned travel writer. Yet, last fall in Paris, bent on buying a new suitcase (we have a favourite area for shopping for luggage, and we've had great success with quality and value there), I carefully compared features and reputation of manufacturer, until I was certain I had just the bag I needed. It wasn't until I had hauled my new suitcase -- on the Métro -- all the way back to our apartment that it dawned on me: I had just purchased a brand new BLACK bag -- something I had long ago promised myself I would never do again!

It was too late in our trip to exchange the bag for another, so I made-do with a hot-pink strap around the middle (to make it easier to spot among the hundred of other black bags on the carousel), but it really didn't cut it as a solution.

I was very delighted, therefore, to discover a regional entrepreneur who has provided not one, but two solutions to my dilemma: A couple named Marlene and Kit Eldredge ("MarKitNow" -- get it?) from Sammamish, WA have created "BagFinders" and "HandleWraps" under their Expression Media product line, as part of the "unique individual" banner of their sales and marketing company, MarKitNow. Whew!

Bottom line is that these LUGGAGE TAGS are products that really work, helping your same-as-everyone-else's luggage really "stand out in the crowd." BagFinders luggage tags are approximately 3 by 5 inches and are available in styles from sports themes, to "almost solids" (small prints and bright colours), to miscellaneous motifs such as wine (very popular), coffee (very popular here in the Pacific Northwest), travel, dogs, cats, animal-print, kokopelli (that Hawaiian/Mexican dancing icon), music and chili peppers, among many, many others. (Whew, again!) The loop from the BagFinder luggage tag makes it a breeze to attach securely to any loop on your luggage, plus there's a plastic-guarded insert area just right for a business card or other identifying feature.

At a trade show recently, Marlene Eldredge introduced me to a new wrinkle she and Kit have just added to their designs: HandleWraps not only help you spot your bag from a distance, but have the added bonus that they make the handle itself a little more comfortable to grip.

Layout in Internet Explorer Layout in Internet Explorer - Internet Explorer does display talbes, div tags, and p tags different from Firefox in my experience. Whenever we develop a new page for evancarmichael.com we have to test it on both to make sure it looks like we want it to. I'll have to do some work to get the ads on the right side and not below - first step though is getting the index page to load properly when you go to the domain name! I'm hoping to get it done this week!
Meta Tags Meta Tags - I'm just curious what you all think -- - How important do you think meta tags are? If the content is keyword optimized and they are being used correctly (as per Google's current instructions) how important are meta tags?? Chris
Re: Twitter List and Hash Tags? Re: Twitter List and Hash Tags? - Thanks for those links, David! Lists and hash tags can be very useful. I had similar questions as Robert, especially when it came to hash tags. I see a lot of people using them, but I never used them myself or even knew what the purpose of using them was. I have yet to create my own lists. I just know I'm on about 7 lists that other people put together.
Re: Thanks Evan Re: Thanks Evan - [quote="Christine Sutherland":2tgxxkiz]One thing I learned from this report was that the keyword meta tag is really only useful for the first few terms but basically ignored after that, UNLESS you list terms that are not specifically mentioned on the page. If you do the latter, you can be penalised. That was the case for me, because I had terms which were alternative words or phrases instead of actually used.[/quote:2tgxxkiz] Hi Christine, it is debatable whether meta tags are still important for search engine rankings these days so you are better off optimizing tags such as the title (<title>) and headings (<h1>,<h2>) with your desired keywords as they have more weight in major search engine rankings now when compared to meta tags. You are better off listing 5 very relevant keywords, rather than 15 vaquely relevant keywords in meta tags, assuming the major search engines still use meta tags to rank webpages and always make sure the keywords you are aiming to rank for are listed throughout the webpage. [quote:2tgxxkiz]When I checked yesterday, both listings were on page 2, higher up. I am absolutely rock-solid confident I can get it to upper page 1 and Evan's report has been 100% critical.[/quote:2tgxxkiz] That's excellent, if you can tell me the website address and the keywords you are aiming to rank in page 1 of results for, I will try to provide advice to get you there! Kind regards TheAnonymousMan
Re: How to Optimize Your Sites to Receive Free Traffic Re: How to Optimize Your Sites to Receive Free Traffic - Yes, that is good advice. When you post articles to your website or blog, place the keywords between "strong" tags (better than making them bold with "b" tags). Don't forget to use your keywords in articles that you post to article directories. DH
