The Broadway Stagehand Strike... The Broadway Stagehand Strike... - Okay, this is probably OT, but I just felt like venting... I can't afford to go to a Broadway show. The cheapest ticket for anything I want to see is $100, and that puts me in the back row of the theater. Why are Broadway tickets so expensive? Because the lowliest stagehands make $1,200... a week. The lowliest stagehand works for 1 hour and 10 minutes...and gets paid for 4 hours. There's somethign called a flymaster, who makes $160,000 a year...despite the fact that no theaters have flies anymore. (Those would be the things that raise the curtains, I'm assuming.) ---And that's just obscene. How can someone make $160,000 for not doing *anything.* I know unions were necessary way back in the distance past when owners treated workers like dirt, but this is ridiculous.
High price of entertainment High price of entertainment -
Why are Broadway tickets so expensive?[/quote:2hbjfazw] Hi Barbara, Maybe it's because the building lease is expensive too? But in truth, I think [u:2hbjfazw]ALL[/u:2hbjfazw] tickets (whether it be for Broadway or a sporting event or concert, etc.) are so expensive because consumers are willing to pay. So as a business person, why not charge as much you can get away with? My friend was just at Newark’s Prudential Center to see "UFC 78: Validation" this weekend where tickets were priced at $500, $300, $200, $100, $75 and $50 (facility and service fees may apply). He was treated to the $200 seats by his company, but he still spent most of the evening watching the fights from the giant screen! Don't you find it ridiculous how $200 seats aren't even close enough to the action to see with your naked eye? Wouldn't it be better to just order the Pay-Per-View and watch it from home for $39.99 then? Furthermore, my friend told me that a t-shirt he wanted to get was priced at $20 more (at the venue) than on the online store!
Money no problem... Money no problem... - I'd have a pied-a-terre in Manhattan and London, so that I could go see plays on Broadway and in the West End whenever I wanted... I'd have a private jet to fly me places... I'd go scuba diving in all the fast -disappearing historical dive sites of the world... I'd start a foundation to save the environment - in particular our oceans...
Re: Keeping up wtith the (super rich) Joneses Re: Keeping up wtith the (super rich) Joneses -
The reason I mentioned Dave Matthews and his band members is because they have 3 properties in one county. If you feel that you NEED 3 or 4 homes, why not buy them in different places??? Chris[/quote:3ai8l8sj] For myself, I'd like a penthouse apartment in Manhattan, and a penthouse apartment in London, so that I could go to Broadway and the West End theaters whenever I wanted. (I'd also need about that much money to be able to afford to see these plays, as ticket costs are ridiculous!) I'd also need my own private jet, so that I could fly between New York and London without having to go through the hassle of large airports. Well...I suppose a pent house apartment in Hawaii could be useful as well...
Re: We need more info Re: We need more info -
Hi Marques, If you're interested in obtaining sponsorship from other small businesses, you should first start by providing a little more information about the event/concert you're trying to organize. Moreover, what kind of business will you be doing with MCL Ent.? Would you have any advertising specs or media kit information you can share with us forum users?[/quote:uzi0o934] Hello, the event will be a concert thrown on campus featuring various artist around the campus and one huge performer, maybe like a lil'wayne or young jeezy or maybe hurricane chris. They will be artist who are "hot" and who people will flock to see. Tickets will go for $35-$40 and $50 at the door. At Cincinnati State there are probably 10-15 thousand people that go there and with right advertising I can get about three thousans thousand people to come to this event. As for MCL Ent. I am forming this company to be an organiztion which will going around to different schools organizing concert events for schools.
