Most states in the US do not require business brokers to have any type of license. There are just 16 states that require business brokers to have a real estate agent license. The following states require business brokers to have a real estate license:
Alaska Arizona California Florida Georgia Idaho Michigan Minnesota Nebraska Oregon South Dakota Utah Washington Wyoming In Nevada business brokers need to have a real estate license and also a permit and Illinois requires a registration process only.
If your state does not require business brokers to carry a professional license, this is nothing to be worried about. Just because an individual is not required to have a license does not mean you will not receive the professional service you would receive from a licensed business broker.
It is suggested that you meet with more than one business broker and decide which one is best suitable to sell your business.
