All storms are perfect

That's what makes them storms. When someone describes a situation as a perfect storm ("two different backup servers failed, plus there was a blackout, no one could have predicted this, it was a perfect storm,") it's important to remember that if the backup server hadn't failed, there wouldn't have been a problem at all.

Just because a storm is perfect doesn't mean you shouldn't have anticipated it.

Alexa - useful tool? - Hi Martin, Alexa is easier to manipulate at the early stages of a website than later on. You can't even get detailed stats from them unless you are in the top 100,000. I've had months where my traffic was up but my Alexa ranking was down so it is not a perfect system. It is also geared more towards the tech community. If you have a webpage that attracts tech / seo people then you are likely to have a better Alexa ranking because your visitors are more likely to have the toolbar installed. That being said, I still find it to be a valuable tool to measure how popular a website is doing. It is far from perfect but it gets to be more accurate as your site starts getting more popular and it's the best tool out there compared to the alternatives.
Re: Can someone explain Search engine optimization to me? - Search Engine Optimization (SEO) could be compared to a big popularity contest: A High School Computer Geek and a High School Football Captain who are trying to promote a party. The computer geek tells everyone in school & even hands out 100's of flyers about his party Friday night...what happens? his friends end up showing up and a few new people...even the new people leave right away because it is not what they are looking for. The High School Football Captain ends up just telling a few good buddies, and within hours the entire school not only knows about it, but everyone wants to come, and everyone does come & stay. One defenition of "optimize is "To make as perfect or effective as possibe." How effective are your article marketing campaigns? Could you be distributing content (that is what search engines index) more effectively? In a perfect world, who would you want promoting your website, web pages, and web content? Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is determining this perfect & effective way to do this. Jeff
