Changing the future

That's what marketers do, after all. We spend time and money to change the role of our products and services sometime in the future (whereas salespeople try to change the now).

Changing tomorrow is really, really difficult. It's expensive and abrupt and rarely works out for the best. Which is why the worst time to change your marketing is right after 60 Minutes calls on the phone. Tomorrow is so close, it's probably going to go down the way it's going to go down, regardless of what you do. Changing the future of tomorrow is tough.

Changing next week's future is a little easier, next month is easier still. You can lay the groundwork now to change your team and your products and your story so that over time, you're in a different place than you are now.

Changing next year, though... that's really hard. It's hard because a year is so far away, you can count on the world being a very different place by then.

Something to think about if you're running for President, building a website or selling services to a big corporation.

Re: 10 things not to buy in 2010 Re: 10 things not to buy in 2010 - Hi GT, I have just check your car of the future through the link. It is super and elegant. It will also save the world from fuel pollutions. So glad it is around the corner. As I have said earlier, we need to position our business for the future. We need to be thinking how our business will be relevant in the years ahead.
Re: Theft in my Store!!! Re: Theft in my Store!!! - Thats awful, i can only imagine how it must feel to know that things are being stolen from you. I think that having security cameras installed wouldnt have any adverse effects on your stores environment- but it could help you figure out who is taking things and that would help you prevent it in the future. Especially if it is an employee- which would be very unfortunate but could save you the hardships in the future... Good luck.
How She Does It How She Does It - Interesting to see what are the most popular threads in this folder, judging by how many hits each thread gets. There must be a lot of moms out there who want to start businesses. I'm currently reading How She Does It: How Women Entrepreneurs are Changing the Rules of Business Success, by Margaret Heffernan. Some interesting statistics: Between 1997 and 2006, privately held businesses owned by women grew at 3 times the rate of all American privately owned firms, women's companies are creating jobs and growing profits at twice the rate of all firms and are responsible for more payroll than all of the Fortune 500 companies combined. This book tells the stories of a few women who have made it big...recommended reading so you know that "you can do it, too."
Re: How did we Live before Electricity Re: How did we Live before Electricity - If our ancestors has survived even without elevtricity, what about us? We have grown up with the modern world so electricity is very useful. I, myself don't think what I can do without electricity. Almost all of our activities today were powered by electricity. Yet if there would be no electricity in the future, we would all learn to live a simple and ancient life. Let's preserve energy and electricity for we may never know what the future brings.
