Hard work vs. Long work

Long work is what the lawyer who bills 14 hours a day filling in forms does. Hard work is what the insightful litigator does when she synthesizes four disparate ideas and comes up with an argument that wins the case--in less than five minutes.

Long work has a storied history. Farmers, hunters, factory workers... Always there was long work required to succeed. For generations, there was a huge benefit that came to those with the stamina and fortitude to do long work.

Hard work is frightening. We shy away from hard work because inherent in hard work is risk. Hard work is hard because you might fail. You can't fail at long work, you merely show up. You fail at hard work when you don't make an emotional connection, or when you don't solve the problem or when you hesitate.

I think it's worth noting that long work often sets the stage for hard work. If you show up enough and practice enough and learn enough, it's more likely you will find yourself in a position to do hard work.

It seems, though that no matter how much long work you do, you won't produce the benefits of hard work unless you are willing to leap.

Re: Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. - I have seen this first hand and find It sad to see talent or gifted people waste their talents. Others with less talent can improve themselves with though hard work. Hard work alone is not enough, where possible, coaching can help them recognize where their weakness may lie and through work hard improve on that aspect of their talent. Discovery is often a necessary part being a talent. Wonder how many nights on the road covering 16 states, did i find great and entertaining talent singing at a local hangout

I would like to see some verifiable success stories. If the products are on the market it should be easy. Making money when we sleep is a great goal and it can be done. Hard work is required to go from idea to profit.
Re: Picking an external hard drive to backup my files - So I ended up buying a Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini 250GB External Hard Drive from TigerDirect.ca for $97.99. While I wasn't able to get the pre-installed software to work on my computer for whatever reason... I was still able to transfer all 14 GB of my personal files via the old fashioned "copy" and "paste" method. Hopefully this won't compromise the safety of my stored data.
