Opening doors with genuine admiration - For more on Keith Ferrazzi visit www.ferrazzigreenlight.com

This story is, indeed, a great example of the "power of genuine admiration to open doors and start relationships." From Yalie Miles Lasater, another co-founder (recently mentioned Sean Glass was also) of Higher One, which provides financial services to institutions of higher education, As all foodies know, Thomas Keller is the one of America's most successful chefs. The very particular French Michelin Guide has only awarded one American restaurant with their highest three star rating. You guessed it - it's Thomas Keller's French Laundry. And perhaps as a result, it is nearly impossible to obtain a reservation at one of his restaurants. If you call French Laundry, they ask if you've dined with them before. If you say no, then they're booked solid. If you say yes, then they look you up in their records. Not easy to get a reservation.

My girlfriend, Liz, and her father have been long-time fans. Reading about Mr. Keller's exploits, trying his recipes and hoping to one day dine with him. Liz and I spent a glorious meal at his informal and less exclusive Bouchon in Napa. When we traveled to Vegas with some friends we made sure to book reservations for ten at the Bouchon Vegas.

When we reached the restaurant, it was clear to the waiter who was knowledgeable and excited about the food. Our waiter immediately gravitated towards Liz and they discussed wine, food and French Laundry. After about an hour into the meal, the waiter, seeing Liz's genuine interest, told her that Thomas Keller was dining in the restaurant that very night.

A moment later, off she was to introduce herself. And our whole table was surprised that Thomas Keller was engaging with her. She expressed her genuine admiration for his work and desire to visit more of his restaurants. He asked for an email address and within a week the concierge from two of his most exclusive restaurants had invited us to dine with them.
