Talk to Your Boss about Your Next Job
Guess what? If you've built a strong relationship with your boss, you should be talking to him or her about your next job. It's stupid to pretend you will be at your current job forever when everybody's thinking about their next move. I know I am and so are the people around me. I'm talking to one of my employees right now about what he wants to do next year and how I can help him. Knowing he will eventually move within the company or move on also gives us months to train his replacement. When job candidates are interviewed at my company, they are frankly told how the skills they will learn with me will help them at future jobs. This kind of openness and honesty also gives your company the opportunity to try to keep you. If your boss knows what your goals are, he can help you reach them in your current position.
