It's well established that good leaders praise their employees, but there are different ways to go about it. As a manager, one thing you can do is to point out to the whole team how well an employee does a certain task. Then others can follow that best practices example.

Mark Hendricks once was in charge of an integrated telemarketing crew and he would only comment on performance when someone was doing an excellent job and he would explain how that person did it. In no time, the team members were doing everything the way the most productive person at each task was doing it. The team surpassed annual goals in less than six months. Even after Mark left, the team remained intact for three years - unheard of in the telemarketing industry.

Ways To Improve Your Alexa Ranking 1-5 Ways To Improve Your Alexa Ranking 1-5 - I came across a blog post that listed 20 ways to improve your Alexa ranking and thought it would be worth sharing. There are 20 suggestions in total that I'll spread out over the next 4 days to give you some food for thought: 1. Install the Alexa toolbar or Firefox’s SearchStatus extension and set your blog as your homepage. This is the most basic step. 2. Put up an Alexa rank widget on your website. I did this a few days ago and receive a fair amount of clicks every day. According to some, each click counts as a visit even if the toolbar is not used by the visitor. 3. Encourage others to use the Alexa toolbar. This includes friends, fellow webmasters as well as site visitors/blog readers. Be sure to link to Alexa’s full explanation of their toolbar and tracking system so your readers know what installing the toolbar or extension entails. 4. Work in an Office or own a company? Get the Alexa toolbar or SS Firefox extension installed on all computers and set your website as the homepage for all browsers. Perhaps it will be useful to note that this may work only when dynamic or different IPs are used. 5. Get friends to review and rate your Alexa website profile. Not entirely sure of its impact on rankings but it might help in some way.
SEO for your small business: 4 tips SEO for your small business: 4 tips - Hey all. I just wrote this entry about using SEO for your small business over at the Entrust Cash Advance blog. Let me know what you think. These days it is common to hear a lot of new buzz-words and acronyms being thrown around when it comes to internet marketing. But among the most common (and important) terms to know and understand is SEO: Search Engine Optimization. SEO simply means optimizing your business’ website so it shows up higher in the rankings of search engines like Google and Bing. SEO involves pinpointing the keywords that your customers are using to locate businesses like yours, and optimizing your website so search engines believe it is the most relevant to those keywords. Why is it important? Because search engines are becoming the primary way that customers search for products, so it is important your website to rank highly. Here are four basic tips for small businesses for how to make their websites more competitive in the search-engine ranks: 1) Some HTML editing While search engine optimization does require a little bit of HTML knowledge, don’t fear! This is why it is important to take another look at your website’s content: is it fluff that simply talks about how great your business is over and over? Or does it provide the user with actual, useful answers to their questions? Run through your site to look for spelling and grammar errors, make sure that you are clear and concise, and be sure to throw in valuable keywords. But don’t overdo it: “keyword stuffing” is a common mistake made by many business owners. Remember that search engines are smart, and they can tell when you’re trying to fool them. 3) Internal and External Links Linking is one of, if not the most, powerful tools behind increasing your business’ SEO success. Linking is both internal and external: internal links are links from one page to another within your site, and external links are links on other websites that point to your site. When editing internal links, be sure to select anchor text – the text that the user read and clicks on – that is relevant and features important keywords. External links are arguably the most important feature of a good SEO strategy but also one of the hardest to obtain. The most important thing to learn about external links is that, while it is tempting to try to “fool” search engines by figuring out quick ways to include your links all over the internet, this is not always useful. You need actual people and companies to decide to link to your site because the content is useful – search engines do in fact know the difference! 4) A social media presence Social media is playing more and more of a role in how search engines decide which sites are useful. If you include important pages or updates about your company on other sites such as Twitter and Facebook, and especially if your followers re-post that update – search engines will consider your content to be valuable and relevant. Encourage your followers to re-tweet or re-post the posts you make on social media sites – it can definitely impact your business’ rankings and ultimately bring in more traffic to your website.
How To Build Great Pillar Content For Your Internet Business How To Build Great Pillar Content For Your Internet Business - I’ve found that a successful Internet businesses must start with a solid foundation. As I’ve seen, most Internet businesses will integrate a blog onto their website and start to build a solid foundation of pillar content. Pillar content or pillar articles are posts that are written to help a consumer establish what your Internet business is all about. What Is Pillar Content? This termed was first coined by a famous blogger called Yaro Starak at his website Entrepreneur’s Journey. Yaro provides the following detailed definition: “A pillar is blog content, usually an article, which does some very important things: * It will bring in a rush of new readers and backlinks (other sites linking to your blog). * It will continue to bring in more readers over time as you and other people refer to it, even though it may be buried in the archives of your blog. * Eventually it will bring in traffic from search engines (this is largely because so many other web pages link to it). * You can list it in a separate area (like an articles page) with all your other pillars so your best content can easily be accessed and your value clearly demonstrated. * It is not time dependent, so in twelve months’ time it will still be relevant and popular.” Why Is Pillar Content Important? Looking at the bigger picture, pillar content is your foundation of your Internet business as it will continue to bring consumers and readers to your website. You may think that just having a product or service to sell is all that’s needed to run a successful business. Not quite so. Consumers today are very hungry for information and want to know more about your business. Therefore providing pillar content relating to your products or services can add value for your consumers and generate more sales for you. For example, if I were selling a watch online and it had a description and listed features, it may not be enough for a consumer to purchase the watch from my site. Reason being, most people would want to read reviews from others who have purchased this watch and see their feedback. What if I wrote an article about the watch talking about the history and make of it and asked an expert to state their opinion, and had other consumers respond with comments and feedback. Then this would provide social proof and adds value to your product without the consumer leaving your site and spending time looking for more information elsewhere. Examples Of Pillar Content Most pillar content articles are longer than 500 words and have lots of practical tips or advice. There are many different forms of pillar content you can create and I have listed some examples below for you to apply to your industry: 1. How To Article - shows people how to do a certain task or instructions on building something 2. Definition Article - defines a term in your industry 3. Present A Theory Or Argument - writing to present some unique thought 4. Release A Significant Resource - a report, podcast, video 5. A “List” Article - it’s very easy to scan and share. Can be a top 10 list or action points 6. Technical Or Visual Guide - a screen capture presentation or how to fix something using a video presentation. It is also a very detailed step by step blueprint on exactly how to complete a task. Pillars I’ve seen how effective pillar content can be for any Internet business and I recommend you have at least 10 pillar articles on your website before marketing to consumers. That way you’ll provide them with something valuable to read and also gain their interest to come back again.
