Staying Up, Up, Up in a Down, Down World

Article Overview: You get back what you send out. I am a very "up" person and people frequently ask me how I maintain my enthusiasm. I do several things, including reading an average of three hours each day for the past 30+ years. One of the fun things I do is to give people my special greeting. Whether it's eight o'clock in the morning or eight o'clock at night, I always try to greet others before they have a chance to speak to me.

Staying Up, Up, Up in a Down, Down World

You get back what you send out.

My greeting is always the same, whether I'm in Auckland, New Zealand, or Augusta, Maine. I use an enthusiastic "Good Morning!" Interestingly enough, 85% of those who respond will respond by saying "Good Morning." - even if it's eight o'clock at night. Many of them cut it short before they finish the word "morning," and then say, "It's not morning!" And I respond, "Then, why did you say, 'Good Morning'?" They tell me it's because I said "Good morning."

The point I make is significant. If you go out in life looking for friends they're hard to find; but if you go out in life to be a friend, you will find them everywhere. What you send out is exactly what you get back. You send out a "good morning," and in most cases you'll get back a "good morning." Send out a cheerful, positive greeting and most of the time you will get back a cheerful, positive greeting. It's also true that if you send out a negative greeting you will, in most cases, get back a negative greeting.

I encourage you to make this approach to life a way of life and I will SEE YOU AT THE TOP!

Re: What is your biggest challenge? Today? Re: What is your biggest challenge? Today? - Staying healthy is important as I get very little done when I have the flu. I basically shut down for a week to recover properly and continue to work hard.
Re: The Top 50 Productivity Blogs To Watch in 2010 Re: The Top 50 Productivity Blogs To Watch in 2010 - Thanks for that list Evan. I have bookmarked it to go through more carefully when I have some spare time. What you say here is so true, the biggest problem with working on the internet is that it is so easy to get side tracked. Staying focused is really the hard part. MichelleJ
Who Said Twitter Doesn't Work...? Who Said Twitter Doesn't Work...? - Last month, the BBC World Service programme, The Strand, featured 21 year-old Icelandic pianist/composer Olafur Arnalds. Arnalds achieved extraordinary success through his internet-led project to compose 7 tunes in 7 days, post them on his website and then post links to it via TWITTER. As a result his website got thousands of visitors eager to listen to his music, catapulting him to fame and bringing his music to the attention of the BBC, who featured an interview with him on the World Service programme, The Strand! So who says Twitter doesn't work? (HINT: It does help if you have something uniquely your own that other people want to get hold of...)
Re: How to Stay Motivated Re: How to Stay Motivated - Staying motivated is definitely hard. Especially when things get overwhelming and there are no immediate results. This is my personal approach. 1) Use a big white dry-erase board / piece of paper. 2) Pen down everything you need to do or in the process of doing. Point forms with dates. No need for excessive details. 3) Schedule a definitive period of time to relax (i.e. for the next hour and a half) 4) Jump back to working starting with number 1 on the white board! The best way is stay motivated to be organized, re-group then jump back in!
