Those “Good Ol’ Days”

Written by: Zig Ziglar

Article Overview: A popular joke goes like this: A former athlete (teacher, preacher, coach, etc.) laughingly says, "The older I get, the better I was!" There's more truth than fiction in that statement and, in a way, that's good. It certainly indicates the person is looking back and thinking of the good things instead of the negatives of life. That kind of attitude will ensure not only a longer life, but a happier and healthier one to boot!

Those “Good Ol’ Days”

A popular joke goes like this: A former athlete (teacher, preacher, coach, etc.) laughingly says, "The older I get, the better I was!" There's more truth than fiction in that statement and, in a way, that's good. It certainly indicates the person is looking back and thinking of the good things instead of the negatives of life. That kind of attitude will ensure not only a longer life, but a happier and healthier one to boot! Realistically speaking, many of our memories about the "good ol' days" do not deal with facts. In those "good ol' days" of a hundred fifty years ago, life expectancy was approximately 40 years. Today it is nearly seventy. When I was a youngster, polio was the scourge of the day. Every parent feared polio when they sent their son or daughter outside to play during the hot summer months. Today, thanks to the vaccine, polio is rare.

Today in America, over 80% of millionaires are first-generation millionaires. Women are earning respect in the worlds of business, medicine, science, education, athletics, etc., fields that were denied them just a few years ago. In today's America there are more minorities with college educations and in the upper echelon of business than ever before. This is not to suggest that everything is equal, but it does say that we're making progress.

Success has been defined as a journey, not a destination - but we must be headed in the right direction. Despite our problems with crime, welfare, drugs and violence, there are few people who would return to the "good ol' days." Yes, things are better today than they ever have been before. We have problems as a nation, but we are actively seeking solutions. For that reason, "these are the good ol' days." I encourage you to enjoy today and look to the future with optimism and hope, and I will SEE YOU AT THE TOP!

Using youtube disadvantages? Using youtube disadvantages? - Youtube embedded players play instantly. Good. However, if you use a youtube embedded player on your business website and click it twice, it takes you away from your site and on to youtube's where a prospective buyer can wander endlessly and perhaps never return. Good or bad? Does anyone know how to alter the html so that it plays only and doesn't link to youtube?
Re: Book Promo 201 - Preview Trailer Re: Book Promo 201 - Preview Trailer - Hi Shri, Good to see you! One of the first things I look at before watching a video is the amount of time it will last. With your video on 1:58, you keep it nicely below two minutes. I can commit to two minutes (sometimes!). It does a good job of convincing us of the need for social networking, and that you must be a good source! Good stuff. David H
