I submitted the above to the editor and he sent it back to me telling me that I needed to write at least 250 more words. They were in a jam, they couldn’t fill the rest of the space. 250 more words. Where was I to find them?

Where indeed?

Now isn’t that exactly what we’ve been talking about, living on the Cutting Edge of Time. Isn’t living on the Cutting Edge of Time when you find yourself, without any anticipation at all, being called upon to engage, to take action, to be authentic and yet completely responsive when called upon without any anticipation that you are going to be called upon, to do something you thought you had already done? To make a decision, perhaps, that you thought you had already made? To respond to a request that you thought you had already responded to? To give someone, or something, the attention you thought you had already given them? And isn’t your role of martial artist just like that? As is your role as martial art instructor, or martial art school leader, or martial art school owner? Aren’t you always, and haven’t you always been forever called upon at the Cutting Edge of Time to give it more than what you’ve given it, to rise to the occasion more than you have risen to it, to teach something you thought you thought you had already taught, but obviously not well enough, not thoroughly enough, not passionately enough, or not deeply enough? And it is in that exact moment, when you are confronted with the thing you least expected, that you thought you had already put to bed, that you are faced with yourself living, the only place we truly get to live, at the cutting edge of time. But, isn’t that what you’ve been training for all your life? And isn’t that what you should be training your business for, to be living on the Cutting Edge of Time, as though everything, absolutely everything, depended upon it.

My suggestion to you is that it does.

That to build a company that lives on the Cutting Edge of Time is to build a truly world class company. And to build a truly world class company is like being a world class student of the martial arts. And being a world class student of the martial arts is like living on the Cutting Edge of Time, always. Always. Always.

So, I think I did it.

I think I’m done.

Let me know your thoughts!
