Sorry to have been away so long

Written by: Michael Gerber

Article Overview: Yes, I do apologize. To be frank (right now I wish I was anyone but me, yes, even Frank) I have been on the mend. The last tour just about wiped me out and then this nasty speaker’s curse, the curse of the throat, plagued me for weeks. Harsh, cough, gravel, hurt. All of that and more. Which of course affected the rest of me…will I ever be able to speak again? Oh, my goodness, is this it? Am I on my way out? Weak, weak, weak. You get my point.

Yes, I do apologize. To be frank (right now I wish I was anyone
but me, yes, even Frank) I have been on the mend. The last tour
just about wiped me out and then this nasty speaker’s curse, the curse
of the throat, plagued me for weeks. Harsh, cough, gravel,
hurt. All of that and more. Which of course affected the
rest of me…will I ever be able to speak again? Oh, my goodness, is this
it? Am I on my way out? Weak, weak, weak. You get my
point.

Imagine if you were a framer (you know, the guys who nail up the wood
to make the house) and you broke your arm? Or imagine you were a
software guy and you developed an allergy to computers. Or
imagine you were a football guy and you twisted your knee. Get my
point? Oh, the curse of the technician follows us all like a
sneering dog hounding our every mortal step. Is it any wonder I
say to you all, go to work ON it not IN it despite the obvious fact
that while you are getting your business ready to grow you must work IN
it as well as ON it because if you don’t, who will?

It’s also the curse of the Start Up, which is all work and all fun and
all guess, guess, guess, and who knows what’s going to happen?
Which is the great extraordinary blast of it all. Oh, well, yes I
am mortal, and oh, yes my body at times is weak, weak, weak, but who
said God would favor me over all of the rest of you? And isn’t
this what we’re here for, we, creators all?

So, I’ve been on the mend and that’s why I haven’t been writing to
you. But, there’s one other thing I’ve been immersed in as
well. I received a gift while I was gone on the road. A
book, from Marty Sklar of Disney fame (he is the recently retired vice
chairman of Disney Imagineering). The name of the book is
Organizing Genius: The Secrets of Creative Collaboration, by Warren
Bennis. And I’ve been reading it. And you have to read it,
too! All of you. Right now. Run to
Amazon.com and get your copy even before you complete this
Manifesto.

It is the story of Great Groups, as Bennis calls them. Great
people who organized to produce great works that were impossible to
produce given the ordinary way people produce anything, but which were
produced, again and again because of the intensity, the vision, the
profound energy and leadership and dreaming that seized the hearts and
minds of these amazingly dedicated, passionate, insane individuals who
collected together on a mission…to create the atom bomb, to create the
first computer, to democratize the computer for each and every one of
us, to create insanely brilliant airplanes, and more.

Read about Great Groups and you’ll understand what’s missing in your
Dream, your Vision, your Purpose and your Mission, and why you
absolutely right now have got to change. Collect yourselves
together and pronounce after me, “There will be no other to fulfill my
mission than me!” I will seize the day! I will trash the
past of my lack of intense dedication! I will create something
beyond belief, and I will raise the stakes beyond belief as I do
it. Thank you Marty Sklar for sending me this gift. Thank
you for waking me up. Thank you for reminding me of something I
already knew, and did, so that I can awaken the entrepreneur within
me.

Oh, it is all wonderful stuff, isn’t it friends, to be in the middle of
our lives, hunkered down and rising up and feeling the poet within
us? Do you get the feeling just yet? Read the book.
You’ll immediately get what I mean. And then let’s talk about
it. There’s no time to rest. There’s so much to do.
There’s no time to rest and there’s so much to do and to hell with the
subject of balance!

Re: Did you reach your goal this year? Re: Did you reach your goal this year? - I made quite a few inroads towards my goal but am still quite a long way off what I want to achieve. I am hopeful that the new year will bring better results. So long as we don't give up there is still the possibility of achieving the goals we set, so long as they are not unrealistic. MichelleJ
Re: Keyword Selection Re: Keyword Selection - Hi Jack, Great post and yes it is so important to use long tail phrases and not just the obvious ones. If your site is about work from home ideas for example then it will take you a long time to get anywhere because that is a very popular phrase so what would you rather do, get no hits for a very popular keyword phrase or get a few hundred hits for a long tail keyword phrase. Do your keyword research on Google and make a list of all the long tail keyword phrases that are applicable in your niche and go for them. Write articles using the long tail keywords and eventually as your site becomes more popular then you can use the more popular ones but it takes time and effort. regards, Mal.

How long can you stay away from your Computer? How long can you stay away from your Computer? - David had just returned from vacation and he stayed away from his computer for 10 days. Re: Search Engine Business Ideas Re: Search Engine Business Ideas - SEO jobs may be booming and SEO consultants may have a bright future, but for how long? SEO knowledge is becoming commonplace so the concept of hiring an SEO consultant may be obsolete soon. I don't know how long this business opportunity will last.
