California's Not a Big Entrepreneurship State

Article Overview: In playing with Google Insight I started checking trends on entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship. Has that sort of thing become, you know, passe, since the dot-com bubble burst and the Web 2.0 thing is waning? Or is it growing, at least as evidenced by people's search behavior on Google?

In playing with Google Insight I started checking trends on entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship. Has that sort of thing become, you know, passe, since the dot-com bubble burst and the Web 2.0 thing is waning? Or is it growing, at least as evidenced by people's search behavior on Google?

Here is the result since 2004:

Interesting, non? Judging by searches related to entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship, California isn't even in Google's (normalized) top ten across all states. The situation improves if you make the search to be just entrepreneurs, as opposed to both entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship, with California ascending to the #4 spot, but both are contrary to what you might think.

The obvious answer, assuming the algorithms are correct, is that Californians don't search for entrepreneurs/entrepreneurship as much as people in other states because they don't feel like they need to know. They think they have figured it out already, or they have someone to ask.

What it doesn't explain, however, is the presence of Massachusetts at the top of the list. The state is not exactly a stranger to entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship, but it is still beating a path to Google searches on the subject.

Other thoughts? And yes, I know this is a little wonky.

Re: Did you reach your goal this year? - Turns out there's 5 meeting locations for Toastmasters International in State College alone... only 30 minutes from my town. Most likely due to Penn State University, but surprising nonetheless that I have never heard of the organization before. I'll have to look more into it as it sounds like something I could benefit from.

Is this a good opening letter? - Dear Sir or Madem, I am currently attending Cincinnati State Technical and Community College pursuing a major in Entrepreneurship. In addition to this, I am in the process of establishing an event at Cincinnati State. Basically, it involves a well known artist coming to the college to perform. The artist whom I am seeking to bring is known to many as “The Best Rapper Alive”, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, & T.I. and one or two local artist to be an opening act. My goals are to provide a source of positive entertainment for the college students, and to make money to help keep this movement going for many years. Right now, everyone who was listed are in their prime, and have been in the business for many years. These music moguls could be called the Kobe Bryant of music, the way they dominate the industry. By throwing an event as major as this, I will work to my full potential to make this one of the successful events to be thrown. With the campus having over 10,000 plus students this makes a good business oppourtuinity for you and your business. By sponsoring this event not only will you and your comapny gain more exposure than you already have but with having such successful artist, it can open more doors for you or your business with people wanting to do business. Also by having this event it will attract people of various age groups, including teenagers, college students and twenty somethings. I do understand that it takes money to make money. With this letter, I am giving you and your business a chance to be a sponsor for this event. As a sponsor your company will get exposoure through promotion at no additional cost. I hope to work with several sponsors and each sponsor will be promoted along with the event promotion. With having more than one sponsor, the company that has contributed the most towards the event will get more exposure than others. By being a sponsor some ways your company can be promoted is by their logo being on fliers, banners, being mentioned through-out the event or having the logo shown through the event. As GT pointed out, forums in general are great for learning and finding out new things that we never would have known otherwise. I've learned so much here in the past year, and I look forward to what this year will bring.
