The Trouble with Beta Invites

Article Overview: I get a lot of invites to trial new beta program/services/products, etc., and I only have time to try a subset of them. It amazes me, however, how many people invite me to try something, without actually having a succinct, benefit-driven way of telling me why I should bother.

The Trouble with Beta Invites

I get a lot of invites to trial new beta program/services/products, etc., and I only have time to try a subset of them. It amazes me, however, how many people invite me to try something, without actually having a succinct, benefit-driven way of telling me why I should bother.

Not to pick on Wixi, but it was the following email today that put me over the edge:

"Hello ,

After successfully launching at Techcrunch40, Wixi is extending our next round of Wixi Beta invites. We are happy to announce that you have been selected to participate in the Wixi Beta Test program with UNLIMITED storage to upload and share all of your media files!

Create your wixi, add new friends and share files with them!

Please click here to start your registration (if the link doesn't work, copy and paste into your browser):

We hope to see you soon inside with the other Wixi Beta testers. We'd love to get your feedback and learn about your experiences. If you have interest in interviewing Arthur about the product, or would like any further information for a write-up, please don't hesitate to contact me directly. Our digital press kit - with bios, background and images - can be found online at: http://main.wixi.com/wixi_about.php."

Right, but what the hell does it do and why should I bother?

Re: First Facebook Ad - Experiment! Re: First Facebook Ad - Experiment! - Facebook ads are very easy to set up and manage. One difficulty I found, however, is in the difference between Facebook ads and Google ads. With Google you try and find the best keywords for your product, but with Facebook you try to home in on the demographics of the customer. Trouble with that is that I felt that anybody who has keywords such as "Internet business" on their Facebook profile is likely to **already have** what I am offering! (Of course, they might be looking for a new and better version but...). I have just broadened my ads appeal to "small business" and "independent business owner" to see if that makes a difference. It adds about 20,000 people to my potential market...
