Students at the College of Charleston can earn a new grade on their report cards this semester. Instead of an "A" or a "B," they can get an "XF," which is not a good thing. The "XF" grade means a student failed a course because he or she cheated.

About 70 percent of college students admit they've cheated at least once at school. Colleges and universities are well aware of this dishonesty and are trying to do something about it.

Duke University has a Center for Academic Integrity. The University of Georgia has created a new full-time position for a coordinator of academic honesty.

Students who are suspected of cheating most often meet with a faculty member to discuss the charge. The student and professor then agree on a penalty - usually an "F" on the assignment or even the course, and the process is over.

The schools say they don't want to punish the students too much. They just want them to learn a lesson. Life is tough and we all make mistakes. Better to learn from them early on.

Re: Did you reach your goal this year? - Turns out there's 5 meeting locations for Toastmasters International in State College alone... only 30 minutes from my town. Most likely due to Penn State University, but surprising nonetheless that I have never heard of the organization before. I'll have to look more into it as it sounds like something I could benefit from.
Re Thinking Smarter - Hi Tami, Thanks for the encouragement. Yesterday I had an experience, which is great. On a volunteer basis I teach French at a College of the Third Age. Often we work with a book, but one guy left it at home. We are only a small class, hence I had a new idea to find words by way of a spider web. Each word had something in common. We filled the whole flipchart with words. Just by thinking creative. Regards Beat
Queen West & John Street, much more accessible than befo - Kris, no specific interested prospects, but I am thinking of this year's graduates of Ontario College of Art, or previous year's, or part-time instructors who would benefit from proximity and continuing contacts with OCA, or freelancers who used to have an office at CBC TV before the many downsizings (set designers, etc.), or CITY TV (and affiliates) freelancers and part-timers. [/quote:39vg8s93] If at all possible, you need to stop using Kinko's now and go price some real printers. It should cost only a couple of dollars a piece, if that, to print your book. Admittedly you'll have to buy in bulk, but the overall savings - selling a $2 book for $20 so that you make an $18 profit instead of a measley $10.... is something every kidpreneur should think about!
