Are There Holes In Your Network?

Once you build a little trust with your clients they often come to rely upon you for more than the scope of your products or services. “I know you’re my accountant, but do you know anyone who can fix my garage door?”

Smart providers realize the power in this trust building advice and actively work to build and develop a network of referable products and services. Some people who practice strategy become so important as a resource to their clients they are virtually locked into a relationship.

There is a real estate agent I know who is so good at helping homeowners find great handymen and contractors that her clients don’t make a move without calling her first. (That’s how Angie’s List was created by the way.)

Some people are just naturally wired for this, but every business can tap into the power of a network. The key is go out there and proactively groom your network or resources. Find the “best of class” in a range of products and services that you know your clients may benefit from and send letters to each of these providers suggesting that you have clients that could utilize their services and that you would like to know the best way to refer them.

Do this aggresively and you will start to build up a network of superstars all for the benefit or your customers. And, a funny thing will happen on the way to building your network - you will begin to receive referrals from your new partners.

As always, the best way to get referrals is to give referrals.

10 best franchises to get involved 10 best franchises to get involved - My advice is: 1) Go to the library and start reading business books (accounting, finance, etc.) 2) Go to your local community college and enroll in night classes 3) Join the local Chamber of Commerce 4) Network / Network / Network -- through the above sources. Once you have spent two years doing the above, then look for a 55 - 60 year old business person that is looking to reduce their time in the business. Then you can work on a sweetheart financing option.
More Difficult Sign Up Process to Stop Spammers... More Difficult Sign Up Process to Stop Spammers... - This post is more for Evan but all Mods are welcome to chime in with your opinions. I have suggested this to the owners on some of the other forums I moderate and it has drastically reduced spam. Doing these things will almost entirely eliminate spam bots and will also cut down on real people who come here to spam because they don't want to jump through all the hoops. I don't know what you have in place right now since it has been so long since I joined but here are some things that a lot of forums are doing and it works well... 1) Captcha during registration. 2) Random security question during registration. 3) Must confirm email address to activate account before you can post. 4) New members can't add signature links and/or links in posts until after they have certain number of posts. Let's get rid of these A-Holes!!!
Re: UPDATES: New Campaign! New Layout! New Ideas! Re: UPDATES: New Campaign! New Layout! New Ideas! - GT - thanks for the FYI - I'm not sure if we'll put a link back. Something to consider though! Trent - the new category is "Social Network and Media" which was put in to compliment the Online Businesses category that currently exists. Overall the new categories are: - Looking For, Networking and Events - Review My... - Social Network and Media - Brags and Rants These came as a result of Ringo doing research on other forums and thinking about what could be improved on ours to give a better experience for everyone. I hope you enjoy them! David, I'm looking forward to reading your Brag / Rant!
RE: Life isn't fair / 'Ol Boy Network RE: Life isn't fair / 'Ol Boy Network - I certainly won't argue that 'Ol Boy Network practices exist and probably always will to some degree because, yes, people like to work with those like themselves. I am curious, though about reactions to the content and approach of the article itself, particularly given that it is from an HR / Management consultant: 1) What does the phrase "'Ol Boy Network" mean to you? 2) Do readers view his discussion as an impartial observation of the phenomenon or do his comments such as "...is not a bad thing," "it's natural," and "are normal occurences" sound like he's expressing an opinion that the practices are OK to continue because that's how it's always been? 3) Would the nature and direction of the content affect your tendency to hire this individual as a consultant? I tried to explore this with the author himself but he was extremely defensive and somewhat insulting regarding the possibility that his article might be perceived as endorsing the practice. I'm looking for a barometer check.
Re: 2010 Social Media Marketing Industry Report Re: 2010 Social Media Marketing Industry Report - [quote="Alan Mater":3vkduro4]Hi Terri, Interesting report. The stats are intriguing. Social media has come a long way, and it's almost essential these days to help build your brand. I would say Facebook and Twitter are my top two. MMO Social Network is starting to pique my curiosity, and it seems I can get some nice exposure to blog posts. It's important to find sites that work for you personally and then build up a profile on those sites. I believe it's here to stay and should be a regular part of our marketing efforts.[/quote:3vkduro4] I totally agree -- it's essential, and you need to figure out which network(s) work for you and focus on them. I'm curious...what is MMO Social Network? I did a quickie google search but only came up with Massive Multiplayer Online games...
