Order Should Not Be Taken For Granted ...
This, from David Brooks in yesterday's New York Times, is, to my mind, brilliant beyond measure-especially the 1st of the two paragraphs I reproduce here:
"Yet it might be useful to consider one more filter. Consider it the World Order filter. The fact that we live our lives among order and not chaos is the great achievement of civilization. This order should not be taken for granted.
"This order is tenuously maintained by brave soldiers but also by talkative leaders and diplomats. Every second of every day, leaders and diplomats are engaged in a never-ending conversation. ... The quality of the conversation is damaged by exposure, just as our relationships with our neighbors would be damaged if every private assessment were brought to the light of day. We've seen what happens when such conversations deteriorate (look at the U.S. Congress), and it's ugly. The Wikileaks dump will probably damage the global conversation . ..."
Tom & Bob Waterman coauthored In Search of Excellence in 1982; the book was named by NPR (in 1999) as one of the "Top Three Business Books of the Century," and ranked as the "greatest business book of all time" in a poll by Britain's Bloomsbury Publishing (2002). Tom followed Search with a string of international bestsellers: A Passion for Excellence (1985, with Nancy Austin), Thriving on Chaos (1987), Liberation Management (1992: acclaimed as the "Management Book of the Decade" for the '90s), The Tom Peters Seminar: Crazy Times Call for Crazy Organizations (1993), The Pursuit of WOW! (1994); The Circle of Innovation: You Can't Shrink Your Way to Greatness (1997); and in 1999 a series of books on Reinventing Work: The Brand You50, The Project50 and The Professional Service Firm50. In 2003 Tom and publisher Dorling Kindersley released Re-imagine! Business Excellence in a Disruptive Age; the revolutionary book, an immediate No.1 international best seller, aims to do no less than reinvent the business book through vibrant, energetic presentation of critical ideas.

- Yessiree... it's screaming it's way to the top after a little nitro injection from the EvanCarmichael forums. Granted it wasn't a super competitive topic, but impressive considering the timeframe. I've seen this before on these forums with other posts.

Re: Greybook - Facebook for the senior citizen!
- Now there's an idea!
Hey, if Nintendo can create a video game system that's appealing to senior citizens, then I'm sure that something like this can be appealing when marketed right.
The main problem I see that you would face is that there are many senior citizens who don't even have a computer. Granted there are many that do these days, but there are also many that don't.
However, if you can get the majority to join and network with each other and build up a decent-sized membership, word could get out and encourage those without a computer to get one and start connecting with others. You never know what's possible.
Still Exploring for loan
- Rates got were 6.125% about a month ago for 30 yr fixed (the was FHA though - prefer FHA over doctor loans because most of them have hidden fees and/or are locked for only 3 years... maybe 5 years. But I'm still looking into the doctors loans). Haven't checked rates since but will be checking this week. I had a friend do a "professional loan" with a broker that advertised with my husband's med school, got about 5.8%. Granted its not fixed for 30 years. We might reconsider but since we know we won't be in the house less than 5 years and arm rates are NOT competitive.
Re: Best way to start a business?
- I'd have to agree with christew.
When I started my business I really didn't have a clue as to what I was getting into or what it would take to see it through. I had to learn the ins and outs while already running it.
I think the best way to learn is to just get your feet wet... or dive right in. I'm definitely a "hands-on" learner, and there's no better time to learn than when you "have" to learn. If I wanted my website to become a success, I was going to have to learn, otherwise it would've failed.
Granted I don't think this works for every business out there. This is more manageable when starting an online business, but I do think you need to do your research and learn before starting an offline business. There's a lot of money at stake and a lot more risk involved. In that sense, yes, an apprenticeship might be a viable option.

Glad you're happy with your moderator keyword rich page and enjoy its benefits Russell! I think you also have the most relevant content (e.g. customer testimonies, etc.) in your page, which helps it to rank better. The more competitive keywords our moderators are trying to rank for will take more time and more content to keyword ratio to reach page 1 of Google searches.
