Lesson #3: Create A Website That Will Keep Them Coming Back

“It all got started about a year and a half ago,” says Jameson. “I had just started thinking about it at that time.”

Jameson was quickly becoming famous as a porn star with Wicked Pictures, but she was not leveraging her newfound popularity to its fullest and she knew it. “I realized I was at the top of my game and that the industry was going more toward the Internet and that I could reach more people,” says Jameson. “I had a website with the adult company I was under contract with, but I wasn’t really involved with it like I wanted to be…so when my contract ended I decided to put everything into it.”

In 2000, Jameson launched an online website and fan club. Today, ClubJenna.com has revenue in the millions, but that is only as a result of the personal efforts of Jameson herself. “I’ve been totally hands-on with this project,” she says. “I’m not a computer genius but I am learning.”

In the beginning, Jameson’s attention was primarily focused on the site’s layout. She was involved artistically, helping design the overall look and feel to the site. But as the site started to expand, Jameson became more and more involved in its operations.

“People really seem to take notice when the star is actually involved in the development and operations of the site,” she said. “I answer all my own e-mails, I do bi-weekly chats...and I take into account what my fans want to see.”

Jameson’s number one focus with the site has always been her fans. “I don't do just the same old crap that you see everywhere else,” she says. “[The fans] e-mail me and tell me what they want to see and the next day we'll have it on the site.”

To that end, Jameson has made sure her site is updated on a regular, if not daily basis. “You have people come in and if you just have a regular site that's not updated frequently, then the word gets out that it's not a good site,” she says. “It's a small community out there. I focus on making constant updates.”

Jameson has also tried to make her site as interactive as possible. Under her direction, a forum was added to ClubJenna, which she says is now one of the site’s most popular features. “It really keeps your members because then they can talk to each other, discuss things and in return become like a family,” she says. “Communication is definitely the most important element.” Jameson is also working on a live webcam chat, where visitors can see Jameson chatting to them directly. “If I were a fan, that's what I would want to see,” she says. “The only downfall is that I can't look bad. I'll have to do my hair every day.”

The webmaster affiliate program has also been an important addition to ClubJenna. “The affiliate program has really upped our membership since we launched it,” says Jameson. “In the beginning I didn't really know what it took to get this all going - it's not just like ‘I’m Jenna - join my site.’ It's a lot more involved than that.”

Now, Jameson’s focus is on researching future online trends to figure out what her website should do next. “I want to be one of the first girls out there to take advantage of the Internet,” she says. “Most haven't realized how awesome and lucrative it is. I want to be one of the first who does it and does it well.”
