Jenny Craig Food

Ask anyone who’s tried to lose weight what the worst part about the whole process is and you’re likely to get the same answer: giving up the food that they love. Whether it’s trying awful diet food or simply giving up delicious eating in general, most diets don’t work because they become too much about sacrifice instead of gains. Jenny Craig food tries to change all of that.

The backbone of the Jenny Craig program is its food. It sells prepackaged meals to its clients, including frozen breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and yes, desserts too. They follow the guidelines as outlined by the federal USDA food pyramid, and contain no more than 60% carbohydrates, 25% protein, and 25% fat. On top of these prepackaged meals, clients are told to add additional fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and dairy products.

The cost of this program is higher than many other diet programs precisely because of these prepackaged meals. Busier clients will enjoy this luxury since they do not have the time to make healthy and nutritious meals, or if they do not know how to. It is estimated that the weekly cost of the program, including food is $90/week. Menus are tailored to each individual client depending on their weight, height, and weight loss goals.

Thus far, the Jenny Craig food has received good reviews. Clients are told to eat six small meals throughout the day in order to keep their metabolism up and to avoid getting hungry. Depending on which program you opt into – Ultimate Choice or Pre-planned – you will be able to take advantage of a wide range of foods, including: French Toast, Multi-Grain Cereal, Pancakes, Spinach Tortellini, Beef Chow Mein, Chili con Carne, Macaroni & Cheese, Pasta Fagiolo, and chicken Fajitas. There is also a wide range of snacks available for throughout the day, including yogurts, fruits, and vitamin bars.

All of the food contains the nutritional values and ingredients on the packaging, so you can see what it is exactly that you’re taking in – and what you’re getting out of it. But no matter how much you like – or dislike – the food, the company stresses the importance of eventually weaning their clients off of it.

The prepackaged meals are not meant to be the be-all and end-all of the program. The ultimate goal is to get clients to the point where they no longer need the meals and can learn to maintain those same nutritional and balanced standards within their own cooking.

Clients are taught how to cook at home – and how to eat out properly – as part of the program. No foods are completely banned from a diet, but instead clients are taught about moderation.

Jenny Craig food is meant to be as good as it can be for the purpose and the amount of time clients rely on it. But it’s not meant to be a solution for life. It will help you get to where you want to go, but then the rest is up to you.
