18 months after bringing Fuller on board and making it big, the Spice Girls decided to fire him. They had apparently become frustrated with his controlling managerial style.
Fuller did not let it stop him. He created a comeback group called 21st Century Girls, “a female Slade for the millennium.” The group, however, never took off. Fuller was desperate for a new artist to promote. He had become the manager of Annie Lennox, and had reestablished her as one of the UK’s favourite solo female artists. Still, he wanted a band for whom he saw more commercial potential.
That was when he launched S Club 7, a group of young men and women who hit it big in the music industry. Besides having 11 top five hit singles, S Club 7 also had their own TV show and movie. The group proved to be the perfect follow-up to the Spice Girls for Fuller. And, when S Club 7 decided to split, Fuller was already prepared with his next creation, S Club Juniors.
“My business is creating fame and celebrity,” Fuller once said. “And I’m one of the best in the world. I know it to the finest detail.”
Time and again, that statement was proving true. Next up for Fuller was the Pop Idol franchise, which expanded successfully in the U.S. as American Idol, and around the world. The program has redefined what audiences have come to expect from TV talent shows. Winners of the televised competition would eventually also be taken under Fuller’s wing, including singers such as Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, and Will Young. Their singles would go on to set new sales records.
Fuller has also managed to incorporate sports into the entertainment industry. Despite his lagging performances, soccer player David Beckham continues to rise in fame and popularity thanks largely to his manager, Fuller. David’s wife, Victoria Beckham, also under Fuller’s management, ironically remains the only original Spice Girl who continues to draw media attention.
And Fuller is not finished yet. Second Chance Idol, for former Pop Idol contestants, is a new TV show currently in the works. American Juniors is another one, to create an American version of S Club Juniors, and he is even considering a show called All American Girl, a beauty pageant. There was once even talk of bringing Pop Idol to China. After all, there are no limits to Fuller’s ability to spot commercial possibilities.
Fuller’s success was recently rewarded when 19 Entertainment was bought by American billionaire, Robert Sillerman for $188 million. Fuller, meanwhile, has been named director of CKX, Sillerman’s Entertainment Enterprises, where he continues to do what he does best.

In 1996, Fuller created a carefully constructed promotion package for the newly named Spice Girls. Within just a few months of hiring Fuller as their manager, the Spice Girls were an international sensation. Their debut single, Wannabe, became the instant number one hit in not only the UK, but in 36 other countries around the world.
