Thrown at the infamously lavish Playboy Mansion, the party may have become a tradition, but it never fails to surprise.

In 2006, the controversial Playboy magnate celebrated his 80th birthday. Real estate mogul and Apprentice star Donald Trump came to celebrate it with ‘Hef’. So, too, did Oliver Stone, Three 6 Mafia, and Paris Hilton. Hilton even serenaded Hef with her version of ‘Happy Birthday’. Meanwhile, his number one girlfriend, Bridget, ended the evening by popping out of a giant cake and performing a striptease for her much older boyfriend.

Born on April 9, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, Hefner became an American icon, and sparked a mountain of controversy, when he founded Playboy magazine in 1953. Since that time, he has both landed himself in a never-ending siege of legal disputes for the pornographic nature of his publication, and has become one of the most envied womanizers in the Western world. He even has a subspecies of rabbit named in his honour – Sylvilagus palustris hefneri.

In 2007, the Hugh Hefner birthday bash took place in Las Vegas over the March 24 weekend. Day one was spent at the Beatles’ LOVE musical by Cirque du Soleil with his three girlfriends, Holly, Bridget, and Kendra. Also in attendance were Hefner’s brother and a number of other playmates. Backstage, the group was treated a special cast rendition of Happy Birthday and he was presented with a giant birthday cake.

After the show, Hefner and his girls went to Moon Nightclub to begin a 48-hour non-stop celebration. They danced the night away until 4 am, when they returned to the Palms resort hotel casino and Playboy Club to continue the weekend festivities. The biggest event of the weekend was the March 25th Playmate Sleepover. Playboy press releases claimed, “This first-ever event features an exclusive evening experience at Moon, discounted rooms in the Fantasy Tower, and special gifts for those joining the ‘sleepover’.”

Celebrating this Playboy’s birthday is just one of the many scandalous events that are organized by the company. From Halloween parties and weekly movie nights to golf tournaments and Easter parties, the Playboy mansion rarely endures a quiet night. And, that is exactly the way Hef likes it.

Not everyone is lucky enough to find themselves on the invite list for the Hugh Hefner birthday bash. Unless you have the likes of Owen Wilson or Matt Damon on your speed dial, consider yourself ruled out. But, the parties are likely to keep on going for some time to come. With three young girlfriends constantly at his side, and a mansion and servants that cater to his every need, Hefner has much to keep him feeling youthful.
