Jennifer Lopez Hair
She isn’t just a trendsetter when it comes to her music, her dance moves, or the clothes and jewelry she wears. Tips on how to get that Jennifer Lopez hair for the everyday woman are some of the most sought after tricks in the industry. Indeed, her tremendous success seems to owe itself in large part to the bobs that can be found atop the Latin diva’s head.
Her locks are versatile. She can wear them straight or curly, sophisticated or young. But, whether it’s up or down, straight or wavy, highlighted or not, it is are always styled before the artist steps into the public eye. She may keep people guessing as to how she will look from day to day, but one thing that you can be sure of is that she will always look put together and ready for a photograph. After all, chances are that wherever she goes a camera eager to snap a shot of her will not be far behind.
As you might imagine, achieving that special look the world has come to know is not a one woman job. For years, the artist has collaborated with celebrity hairdresser Ken Paves, who achieved fame after being mentioned on the Oprah Winfrey Show. From designing the hairstyle for Jessica Simpson on her wedding day to working with Carmen Electra, Céline Dion, and Heather Locklear, Paves is the ‘it’ man for celebrity dos in Hollywood.
Rita Hazan of the Rita Hazan Salon in New York City also plays a crucial role in creating that Jennifer Lopez hair that has become the envy of women the world over. Lopez is neither a blonder nor a brunette and that is thanks to Hazan, the hair colour magician behind Lopez’s locks. What might appear as natural sun-kissed tresses are actually the hard work of Hazan, who infuses them with honey-caramel highlights that change with the seasons. “We always change Jennifer’s hair around a little each time, sometimes mixing in lowlights, other times adding more highlights,” says Hazan. “Her colour is different all the time. “
Her mane has not always been the picture of perfection that it is today. When the diva was just starting out with her career, she struggled to make ends meet. After realizing she desperately needed money – and fast – she decided to go to a hair show that had been looking for models with long hair. “I had really long hair, and they paid me about $600, some amazing amount of money at that time, to cut my hair,” recalls Lopez. “And they did this crazy cut, which wasn’t exactly a disaster, but my reaction was like ‘Oh my God!’”
Today, Jennifer Lopez hair is not all natural to be sure. The artist has been known to use everything from hair extensions to hair weaves to wigs to enhance her look. However, both Paves and Hazan say that with the proper moisturizing treatment, and the right curling irons or ceramic straightening irons – depending on the look you’re going for – the Lopez look is achievable for any woman in the comfort of her own home.
