She may have rushed into marriage twice before and found herself caught up in the media storm of relationships with many other high-profiled celebrities, but it is the marriage between Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony that seems to be holding strong today. While it is only the second marriage for the Puerto Rican Anthony, who was married to former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres Delgado when he began dating his current wife, the Bronx born Lopez is hoping that the third time is the charm for her.
They are two of the most successful Latin singers in history, not to mention she has a thriving acting career. Although they had known each other in a professional capacity for years, it wasn’t until the two began working together on “El Cantante” – Lopez’s first venture into film production – that a personal relationship would begin to develop.
When discussions began for filming “El Cantante” together, a film in which the two would play on screen husband and wife, both superstars were in relationships with other people. Lopez says the personal relationship that developed off screen caught them both by surprise: “‘El Cantante’ was a project that I got four or five years ago. I called Marc Anthony four years ago to do this project. We weren’t even seeing each other. He was with someone else and so was I. It wasn’t a planned thing that we would be together when we shot the movie. It just so happened that way.”
Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony were married in a secret wedding on June 5, 2004 at Lopez’s home in Beverly Hills, California. The wedding was so secret that even the guests did not know what they were coming to witness; they had just been invited to a backyard summer party. When they showed up to see Lopez in a Vera Wang wedding gown and Neil Lane diamonds, and Anthony in an off-white Armani suit, they knew this was no ordinary party. Underneath white tents, the two were married around 6 p.m. in the presence of some fifty guests, including Lopez’s ex-boyfriend rapper P. Diddy.
Following the wedding, both of the celebrities refused to acknowledge in public that the ceremony had taken place until much later. Perhaps that was because of all the speculation concerning the rush with which the two artists had gotten married in the first place. After all, he had received his divorce papers from his last marriage just four days before the ceremony with Lopez. The release of blue and pink balloons into the air following the wedding also caused speculation to swirl as to whether or not Lopez was pregnant, which would also explain the need for a speedy wedding.
Today, although their marriage is now a well-known fact, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony continue to cause a stir in public outside of their music. From dabbling in Scientology to persisting rumours of pregnancy, the two are sure to remain in the public eye for some time to come.
