Lesson #3: Anything is Possible with Passion and Purpose

Ask anyone who has attended a Tony Robbins seminar to describe the experience in one word and you are likely to hear words such as “energetic” or “enthusiastic.” If there is one thing that Robbins is known for above all else, it is the passion with which he approaches life. Whether he is speaking to an audience of 2,000 or a single journalist, Robbins can’t help but be passionate.

“Live with passion!” he exclaims. “There is no greatness without a passion to be great, whether it's the aspiration of an athlete or an artist, a scientist, a parent, or a businessperson.” According to Robbins, a life without passion is a life of un-fulfillment.

But, it doesn’t stop at passion; that alone will not get you to where you want to go. What you also need are goals and a focus on achieving those goals. “People are not lazy,” says Robbins. “They simply have impotent goals – that is, goals that do not inspire them…In life you need either inspiration or desperation.”

Over the course of Robbins’ career, he has seen numerous athletes, business people and world leaders alike who have failed to achieve their goals, not because they lacked passion, but because they lacked focus. “One reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we never concentrate our power,” he says. “Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular.”

Robbins believes beyond a doubt in the adage, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” But, there also has to be a strong dedication to that way, to achieving your goals. “I believe life is constantly testing us for our level of commitment, and life's greatest rewards are reserved for those who demonstrate a never-ending commitment to act until they achieve,” says Robbins. “This level of resolve can move mountains, but it must be constant and consistent. As simplistic as this may sound, it is still the common denominator separating those who live their dreams from those who live in regret.”

With a focus towards a clear set of goals and a steadfast commitment to achieving those goals, Robbins believes that anything is possible. Without that, we risk losing much of our short and precious time floundering around in a life of mediocrity. “Most people have no idea of the giant capacity we can immediately command when we focus all of our resources on mastering a single area of our lives,” says Robbins. “In essence, if we want to direct our lives, we must take control of our consistent actions. It's not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, but what we do consistently.”

Robbins believes that determination is the wake-up call to the human will, allowing each individual to achieve the life of his or her dreams. “We can change our lives,” he says. “We can do, have, and be exactly what we wish.”

Lesson learned for me. We're back to the drawing board with the list owner more involved in the development of the letter and emails. Re: Success Re: Success - I study success intently, and would like to share: Here's two excellent and nearly identical success-formulas from a couple of the world's masters. FIRST FORMULA: 1. Passionate Desire 2. Clear, Definite Purpose 3. Committed Decision 4. Take Action In Faith (Bonus Secret Sauce: 5. Repeat Consistently) I made a video about this, but am not allowed to link it yet. Google "Ryze Success Steps" for it. Oh, and this is Napoleon Hill's (Master Of Success Laws)'s Formula. SECOND FORMULA: 1. Passionate Desire 2. Understand It Is Already Done (Faith) 3. Relax & Allow It To Unfold (Go about your life calmly) This one is courtesy of Abraham-Hicks (inspiration for the movie The Secret). Hope that helps!
Re: On taking Action Re: On taking Action - [quote="jvprosperity":1hd0zjku]I was surprised to not see the words along the lines of taking deliberate action within the article. Do yo think it's an important part of the 6 points Evan summarized from the article or is it implied?[/quote:1hd0zjku] Hi Andy, I think taking deliberate action is implied in the six points. For instance, I interpret them as follows: 1. Set your sights on where you’re going - Write your goals down on paper. 2. Educate yourself - Read everyday about your field and even take courses on it. 3. Passion pays off - Enjoy what you're doing. 4. Grow your money - Invest your money. 5. No guts, no glory - Go out and sell your product/service/self everyday as if it were last. 6. The Biggest Secret? Stop spending. - Put aside as much money as you can into savings your account/retirement fund.
