Forum members come from a variety of business backgrounds, interests and experience levels, making for some very interesting discussions. What does your business do?

As a web biz reviewer and my home-based business interests are twofold: first, I am a freelance writer with several local corporate clients for whom I write newsletter content; this in addition to other freelance writing work that I do. Second, I am developing an affiliate-based Internet Marketing business centered around my StarrBizz.com website and GT Bulmer Web Bizz Blog. StarrBizz.com offers a variety of Internet Home Business ideas and opportunities, plus a small but expanding list of related products and services. Why did you want to become an entrepreneur?

From the time I set up my first Kool-Aid stand as a pre-teenage kid, I’ve always been drawn to the income possibilities of entrepreneurial activity. I guess I just like the basic concept of selling things! As a writer, I enjoy the challenge of motivating people through creative marketing and promotion. I tell myself that I’m in it for the money, that I’m building my knowledge and skills to prepare for my “big opportunity” or breakthrough when it comes. But what I find is I seem to get far more joy from the sense of productivity and achievement than I do from the monetary reward. Not that I don’t do a happy dance on big paydays, mind you.

Who is your favourite entrepreneur?

There have been many leaders in business and marketing who have inspired me by their focus, determination, developed abilities and eventual success. Two teachers who appeared when this marketing student was willing were Earl Nightingale and Brian Tracy. Earl was the first, so I’ll say a few words about him here. I knew nothing about this famous broadcaster, speaker and writer until I read his book, Earl Nightingale’s Greatest Discovery. This book set me on the path to my own discoveries that, in turn, have lead me to greater achievement and satisfaction in both my personal and business life.

What is your favourite business book?

Earl Nightingale’s Greatest Discovery, for the reasons mentioned above.

What is your definition of success?

Success is knowing with complete confidence that you are fulfilling your purpose and moving closer to your desired goals, day by day, as the result of personal, focused, planned effort. You might measure progress or acknowledge the achievement of a specific goal by a predetermined dollar amount or time interval, but if you are confidently moving forward, guided by a focused plan, you are already successful.
