I can see the purpose of using it in a group challenge though as it gives some public accountability, just as long as you're aware its a rough measurement and your own stats are what you should really be looking at.

Earliest I expect to launch that site properly is mid-2010, will be more of a hobby and a personal viocebox.

That's about right, Chris. It also helps with goal setting as that's what we're doing here. I honestly don't pay any attention to my Alexa rank other than when Evan posts the updates. I see I'm falling way behind on my goal, but oh well. Where I'm lacking I'm making up in other areas.

Well done Evan on bringing your ranking down so much, you will soon be in competition with Google itself. Have no idea why ranking has gone in the wrong direction in the last couple of weeks, I am not doing anything different from what I was doing before. Oh well I suppose it will eventually sort itself out, I cant get too caught up in it at the moment. MichelleJ

Thanks Michelle - in no small part it's thanks to you and the other forum members for all the great posts that we continue to improve - it's going to be tough to reach the next milestone of under 10,000 but with your help we can get there!

Great goal, Trent, and awesome achievement Evan! Like Michelle, my rank climbed in the wrong direction over the past few weeks. I was almost down to 600,000 prior to that! Interesting. At least it's still on the right side of my starting point. GT

Alexa goals are good motivational drives for most website owners. Even though ranking does not generally describe the capability of a site, it will still help for some points how people will have to trust the website or not by viewing at it. Traffic is appealing that is why contents should be sustained in a relevant manner.

Hello: I agree with you; Alexa Rank goals give a website owner something measureable to use to monitor activity and progress. Alexa Rank may not be a "be all, end all" concern, but for those who can benefit from extra motivation, it can be useful. GT

I agree that Alexa ranking is not everything, but I now have the toolbar on my computer and when I see my ranking going in the wrong direction it definitely makes me work harder to turn it around again.

Hi, Michelle: Yes! Perfect example. That's what I've been trying to say. It motivates a person to try to do things to improve the Alexa Rank and in the process, those things help the business in general. GT

Yes, that is exactly it. I think everybody here is aware that Alexa is not the Holy Grail, but it does help keep you motivated if you have the toolbar on your browser and see your current rank everytime you visit your website. It should work like a ratchet, keeping you moving in the right direction and motivating you not to slip (too far) back...
