There is often a dividing line drawn in people’s minds between non-profit, humanitarian organizations and for-profit businesses, but it is a faulty division in many regards. Even when making a profit, many business industries are founded entirely on helping people who need it. One of those is the healthcare industry. Within this field, there are an infinitesimal number of small business franchises, but here’s a quick overview of some of them, split it into two distinctive headings: general healthcare small business and senior care small business.

Healthcare Small Business
What we all think of when we think healthcare, of course, are nurses and doctors. Unfortunately, we have no franchises available that will enable you to become your own nurse or doctor—that takes extensive years of training that no franchisor can give you. If you want to help nurses and doctors, however, there is a way to do that with the short training that a franchisor can give.

Right now, the medical field is one of the fastest growing and, simultaneously, most understaffed sectors of the professional world, which means that the demand for good medical professionals is mind-bogglingly high. This makes for an excellent business opportunity for anyone willing to get into medical staffing, and two great work from home businesses available in the field are ATC Healthcare Services and Health Career Agents. With either of them, franchisees become the liaison between various medical facilities and the medical professionals that they are so desperate to hire. An owner of either of these small businesses has the privilege of getting facilities staffed and finding the best jobs for trained doctors and nurses at the same time.

There are, however, plenty of other healthcare opportunities also available to an entrepreneur. Both staff and patients are always in need of various kinds of equipment. Sometimes that need arises in their day-to-day home life, and other times it only comes into play when they pass through hospital doors, but in either case, the necessary tools have to be provided by someone, and that someone could very well be you. Digicom Specialties is one home based opportunity that provides necessary medical equipment to various medical establishments. Specifically, franchisees with this operation provide the use of cost-effective ultrasound equipment to be used by healthcare professionals. However, if what you’re looking for is more direct contact with patients, Mobility Solutions may be more the way to go. Though still not administering any kind of medical service to folks, franchisees with this business do provide mobility tools to disabled and recovering patients. What does that mean? It means that you sell things like crutches, wheelchairs, and walkers.

Finally, for the person wanting to work directly with the public, helping people first-hand, Drug Test Consultants can take you there. Whether running an everyday drug test for a nearby company’s new employees or helping a family keep tabs on their teenage son’s drug problem, you help people get confirmable proof that they can trust one another.

Senior Care Small Business
If you’re interested in making your money by helping a population that really needs it, seniors are a great way to go, and as far as small business franchising is concerned, there is one primary way to jump into the game: at-home care. Griswold Special Care and Stay At Home are two of the chief alternatives in this arena. Griswold Special Care is all about providing care to elderly clients; their core group of franchisors has a combined total of 150 years in the industry, and 94% of their time and energy goes into providing first-rate support to their franchisees, instead of building their marketing systems and advertising. The goal is good client care, not tons of ignored new clients. Stay At Home focuses on giving franchisees the tools to work at home, connecting local at-home aids with the elderly clients and keeping close track of how everyone is doing. In either franchise, the key to business success is ensuring that one of the most forgotten segments of America is remembered.

It’s easy to forget that these kinds of businesses are in fact businesses—that providing these kinds of humanitarian services is how some people are actually able to pay their bills and get themselves ahead in the world. True, that does mean that some people can get their motives mixed up in the healthcare industry, but it also means that there are many who are doing something for someone else and actually reaping tangible reward for it, and that seems like a very reasonable and honorable business system.

Do you think it'd be possible turn the keywords listed in the profiles into links like on social networking sites? For instance, if someone's favorite entrepreneur is "Bill Gates", I should be able to click on that name to find a list of all the other forum members who share that same entry.
