Hot Small Business Opportunities To Get Your Career Off The Ground

For many people, one of the hardest career stages is simply getting a career underway. Forget climbing the corporate ladder, earning a company car and matching parking space, or advancing to an executive position; it would be nice to simply get in the door. It’s often those awkward years after school ends that are really trying, because it can easily seem like you’re going nowhere, trapped in whatever temporary job you could muster until a "real" position turns up.

Waiting tables, working security, and delivering pizzas are all good opportunities that can hold a person over until a good career break, but they aren’t the only options. Though the average person isn’t likely to think about it, starting a franchise is an excellent way to kick off a career without the standard setbacks and heartaches of entering the working world.

First of all, when a person buys a franchise, waiting patiently for a good opportunity to open up is a non-issue. With a fully functional business in-hand, producing a strong income with a successful business plan developed by people with years of experience, franchisees already have a good opportunity, and if a greater opportunity comes along, that’s great, but there’s no need to wait for success when you already have it. Should such an incredible career opportunity with a large corporation come along, being a franchisee is an incredible addition to any resume. Unlike side jobs like waiting tables, purchasing and operating a business for sale is a wonderful chance to develop responsibility and leadership. Realistically, though all work experience is valid, being able to say in a resume that you owned your own business gives a huge advantage in the business world. Best of all, running a franchise is an investment that provides far more than a steady paycheck. If and when the career move of your dreams arrives, you are able to sell the franchise that you’ve built to another entrepreneur and regain what you had initially spent to purchase it, if not more.

The reasons to begin your professional life with a franchise business are many, but it may be difficult to know what business opportunities are good for getting started. Here are just a few that would be well worth your while to investigate further. Some are good choices if you’re interested in their specific fields, but even if not, they would still provide an excellent starting point for your career.

Who’s Who Magazine
For those who are at all interested in creative work either in writing, advertising, or printing, Who’s Who Magazine gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to create biannual magazines to help the best local businesses and non-profit organizations publicize their services. All the necessary training is provided, so a history in the publishing industry is unnecessary for this home based business. Central staff will give you all the information and tools necessary to connect well with business leaders in your community, build and maintain a good staff of graphics and writing personnel, and operate an exceptional business that runs on advertising fees.

Furniture Medic
This is the perfect work from home business for the starting businessman who also has a love for hands-on labor. As the premier repairer of all things leather and wood, from couches to car interiors, the Furniture Medic franchisee begins this low cost business as an owner/operator, but has the opportunity to expand into a multi-employee, management-style business. A part of the ServiceMaster brand of franchises, a Fortune 500 company and one of the most trusted business names in the world, this business is equipped with a comprehensive marketing plan that is sure to help any franchisee to succeed.

The Photo Archival Company
With recording technology constantly changing, private parties and businesses alike are constantly in the market for media compilation and conversion: for instance, wanting family VHS videos and photographs collected into one, easy-to-view DVD. The Photo Archival Company franchisees provide this increasingly necessary service to their clients, while also providing themselves with an excellent opportunity to build a solid business without having to build from the ground up. This is a particularly good opportunity for entrepreneurs interested in a career in graphics and/or video.

SuperCoups
With any kind of past experience in sales, this home business is the perfect way for a budding businessman to solidify his talent and prove himself in the industry. Hitting the pavement day in and day out on his own schedule, the franchisee meets with local business owners to offer them the opportunity to advertise in a regular coupon mailing to the local area. It profits businesses by bringing in new clientele, and it profits consumers by giving them discounted prices on products they already use. The franchisee who leverages those selling points is well on his way.

Fresh Coat Painters
Every year, Americans spend $100bil to paint the interiors of their homes. The wise businessperson who wants to take a piece of that pie without doing the tedious manual labor of actually painting is the kind of person Fresh Coat Painters is looking for. In their words, "painters paint, we want business owners." Provided with all the necessary tools, from the business plan to the marketing system, franchisees only have to bring a passion for business, moneymaking, and following an established system, all of which make a good entrepreneur or corporate businessman.

There are many ways to get ahead in the business world and establish yourself while you wait for your business calling to come into sight, and though it’s often overlooked, a small business franchise is an excellent option. Though franchising may not provide you with exactly the career you were hoping for, you could very well find yourself with just a good source of experience, or even a business that you enjoy more than the one you thought you wanted at the outset. You never know, and trying is often the best way to find out.
