Guest post by: Farhad Dordar

Article Overview: A positive attitude can be your most vital tool for succeeding in an undesirable situation. However, knowing how to identify the process behind controlling your feelings can be quite abstract, so what kind of advice can you find from a martial artist?

What do we mean by 'positive attitude'?

I was reading my Instructor’s training manual, written by Master Farhad Dordar and given to me as a tool for improving my leadership qualities, when I got inspired to blog about a paragraph I came across. Check this out:

“Instructors must understand that the martial arts are not just about how to kick higher or punch harder, but also about improving our general outlook, our social skills and our concentration.

In improving our character traits and focusing on the positive, we build confidence and create the right state of mind to encourage further growth and development in ourselves and the students we work with.

Having a positive attitude allows us to solve problems and helps students to see that the goals we set are attainable."

Having a positive attitude is either something you’re gifted with, or something which you can teach yourself once you realize that you don’t want to lose any more of your life to any of its problems we face with antagonist emotions and crippling frustration. Having a positive attitude is all about learning how to first recognize that your heads in the ground and pulling it out, then once everything around you is more vivid and you’re in control, then looking at your problem with new eyes and telling yourself what I told my mother so many years ago: “This has happened to us, and now the only way we can get home is to calm down and deal with it.” You may as well throw in some other maintenance techniques while you’re upstairs, before you return to your body to actually deal with the problem. These are some good ones, using examples from a list which Master Farhad has put in my martial arts instructor’s book:

When we are young our visions are quite different from when we are older. Though I have been on an amazing journey since I was twelve, I haven't put faith in numbers when it comes to age. My belief that each moment of our lives is a new beginning has allowed me to possess an innovative mentality in my endeavours. I am very much deeply involved in my journey and this has made me very confident in who I am and what I have to share with my followers around the world.

As in most sports, I believe that there is a championship in life. Considering how frequently we encounter obstacles that require courage, self-discipline, self-confidence, knowledge and will-power, it is a process of victories and defeats. We all want victories in our lives, so we should learn to face the obstacles that lay before us without hesitation. We must own our obstacles, lest they own us.

By starting my first martial arts school at the age of 21, I was able to found the basis for my future as a mentor of all the values found in martial arts. I have been working for 39 years since, involved in many different sports, studying many new styles of martial arts, and participating in many international courses and educational programs. By constantly studying and researching valuable areas such as general management, business management, psychology, physiology, human anatomy, communications, biomechanics, and the elements of mind, body and spirit (holistic fitness), I have been able to create a step-by-step self-improvement program based on my knowledge. This program conveys a life of dedicated research by conveniently depicting how my students and followers can improve their lifestyles through martial arts training. Students will learn how to recognize important benefits and values such as confidence, discipline, self-control, patience, leadership and goal-setting. How these values can come from martial arts training and become implemented into a human lifestyle at any age group for both males and females is one of our major elements.

Re: What can You Learn from a Jobless and Homeless Woman? Re: What can You Learn from a Jobless and Homeless Woman? - Alan, I definitely agree that a person needs all of those things. I think for me, it was the positive attitude that was the most important. If I woke up with a "defeated" attitude, I knew I had to do something to snap me out of it quickly. Either read a few chapters from a Zig Ziglar book or the Bible. I'm sure everyone has their own little routine.

I think for me, I know what I want so much so that I'm not going to let anyone get me down. I try to stay positive in every situation, business related or not. It helps with life in general. Nothing good can ever come from being negative all the time. I've seen what it can do, and it's ugly. Also, I think a positive outlook provides opportunities that otherwise would go unnoticed if a person is negative about a situation. You'd be surprised how more open-minded one can be and be provided with "light bulb" ideas in the worst of times. I've been there.
Re: Winners vs. Losers Re: Winners vs. Losers - Thanks Evan May I add Winners have a passion for success Winners have positive mental attitude Winners are committed Winners see problems as opportunities Winners love the challenge (of difficulties) Losers Easy to recognize - I try to avoid them; attitude, commitment, body language, participation, procrastination, fear, ....
Re: What makes a good sales rep? Re: What makes a good sales rep? - Hello, Topeyinka: Thanks for starting this thread. It will be informative and inspiring! I think one mark of a good sales representative is perspective with a positive attitude. I number of years ago, I heard a similar story about those same two salesmen you just mentioned. This story focuses on the power of perspective with a positive attitude. The first shoe salesman said, "There is no market here. Nobody wears shoes." The second shoe salesman said, "The market is [u:28onyj2m]unlimited[/u:28onyj2m] here! Nobody wears shoes!" GT :-]
