Would You Be a Successful Business Owner?

Periodically we look at common character traits that entrepreneurs often have and discuss how being part of a franchise system allows "non-entrepreneur" business owners to succeed even if they don't have those exact qualities. But what are the things you do need to be a success? Drive & Determination - How strong is your desire to own your own franchise business? Greater flexibility, control of your own future, independence and financial rewards are some of the most common reasons people are motivated to succeed in their own business. You have to want it. Do you?

Business System - How strong is the system being offered by the franchisor? Robert Kiyosaki, co-author of the book Rich Dad Poor Dad notes that a great business system is the total package for running the business; location, marketing, products, sales process, management, training, etc. Does the system you're looking at have those pieces in place?

The "Right Fit" - Will the business maximize my strengths, passions and experiences? Even good systems don't run themselves. Every franchise system has successful owners and less-than-successful owners. It's the same system, so the difference is often in the owners themselves.

Where do you fall in this mix?

Job titles Job titles - [quote:3shpwvxj]In fact, I've had friends tell me that "Founder" is better than "Owner" since it's less possessive.[/quote:3shpwvxj] For myself, I don't care for the term "Founder" [i:3shpwvxj]because [/i:3shpwvxj]it's not possessive. You can be the founder of a company and have sold it - so it no longer belongs to you. However, if you call yourself "Owner" - people know the company is still in your hands. But I don't like Owner, either. I'd prefer President or Director, because one can be an absentee owner, whereas if one is a President or Director, people assume you're involved in the day to day activities. Manager, on the other hand, wouldn't work if its your business, because (to me, anyway) that implies that you "manage" for someone else - like at a restaurant.

It doesn't matter how successful you are in your business - it's always possible to learn something new.
