International Food Franchises find ways to cater to the Indian Palette

“We thought of the idea earlier this year and then took about four months in research and development perfecting the flavor,” says Ashwin Uppal, General Manager, Marketing, South Asia, Baskin Robbins. The flavor in question is the popular Malai, though a pistachio flavor is also in progress. “Our research showed that the two best-loved flavors in kulfi are malai and pistachio.

Customers will now be able to enjoy the taste of kulfi but with the quality that our brand promises,” Uppal says. He’s confident that the price of Rs. 53 plus tax will not deter the customer. “They have the option of eating kulfi in a cup or cone, something they never had before. Also, they trust the quality. We haven’t sensed any hesitation; it is actually moving faster than most recently launched flavors,” Uppal insists.

Unchanging flavor Cinnabon, the international pastry chain, too, has had to bow down to Indian preferences. “We realized that we would be able to reach a larger client base if we changed our menu to offer only egg less products,” says Zayed Kazi, marketing and communications manager, Cinnabon India. “We also made sure that the final product tasted no different from what was available anywhere else in the world, because most of our clients are either NRIs who are visiting India or people, who’ve traveled abroad often.” Kazi reveals that the Indian predilection for sweetness makes the Chocobon the most popular item.

But he adds that most people don’t come in asking for an egg-less menu, putting it down to good communication. “We made it very clear at the outset, so even first-time customers don’t need to ask us whether it’s egg-less. Apart from that, the flavor and items on offer are exactly the same as anywhere else in the world.” KFC 1 piece chicken rice meal — 1 piece of your favorite chicken with an aromatic veggie pulao and makhani curry Rs. 96; Veg rice and strips meal - Veg rice and strip with an aromatic veggie pulao and makhani curry Rs. 84; Dominos Peppy Paneer Pizza Rs. 152; Keema Do Pyaaza Rs. 237; Papa John’s (Pizzas all 6 inch) Chaat Pizza veg Rs. 139; Non veg Rs. 149; Paneer Bites Rs. 99; Papa’s Paneer pizza Rs. 179; Keema pizza Rs. 149; Range of veg and non veg tandoori pizzas Rs. 99 to Rs. 189; Subway (Subs all 6 inches) Chicken Tikka Rs. 115; Chicken Seekh Rs. 115; Veg Shammi Rs. 110; Paneer Tikka Rs. 110; Aloo Patty Rs. 110; Pizza Hut (Pizzas all 6 inches) Kadai Paneer Pizza Rs. 135; Paneer El Rancho pizza Rs. 135; Teekha Paneer Makhani pizza Rs. 135.

[/quote:gla81p60] And if it's NOT that much to raise... open up a service you can provide for non-Indian project providers. Elance.com, Guru.com, Rentacoder.com employ thousands of Indian service providers who complete projects and often times you can recoup $500 in one job. You just have to sell yourself there and complete a few projects. Warmest Regards, Takuya
franchisebrief.com good clean design franchisebrief.com good clean design - I actually really like the design - it's clean and not busy. The information is easy to find. You mentioned you didn't want to monetize from the site thru the use of adwords but what about JV'ing with all or most of the Franchises you are referring people to. Is that possible in the Franchise industry?
Re: What to do at the first roadblock? Re: What to do at the first roadblock? - Do you want the real number or what I tell my wife??? Presently one business that has three distinct product lines that cater to the transportation industry. I find myself looking at other markets that are much larger than what we service... Entrepreneurs for example... how many are there out there compared to transportation companies? Massive market that's tough to overlook... Ask Evan! There are many markets like this and if one is constantly thinking about it, eventually a business idea comes up that requires some additional thought. But... as per the theme of this thread, roadblocks happen for a reason and you either choose to find a way around it or turn around and look for another route as the road after the roadblock might be a little rough!!!
Re: What is your biggest challenge? Today? Re: What is your biggest challenge? Today? - My answer to the question is both time and focus. I would love to be in a position to work full time from home but am not even close to that at present. I deliver training courses for various clients mostly in the private sector relating to Health and Safety, Food Hygiene and occasionally deliver basic computing courses to older people in the community. These activities pay the bills but as with other members I find myself burning the candle at both ends trying to find the time to focus on the IM things that are essential if I am to progress. reqards, Mal
