The donation that was made through the Universal Islamic Charity Authority aims to support the victims of the deadly floods that hit the country last month. The gesture comes as part of SUBWAY®’s commitment to support the community and reiterates its status as a responsible global corporation.
Abdulrahman Al Mutairi, Chairman and Development Agent, SUBWAY-Kuwait, said: “We are extremely aggrieved over the catastrophe that has hit our brothers in Pakistan. This donation, though seemingly small, will be of help once combined with other donations, and hence we are strongly calling for everybody to provide what they can to alleviate the suffering of the people in the affected areas. Our initiative also complements our mission to lend a helping hand to the needy and distressed.”
The floods triggered by the annual monsoon rains have killed more than 1,500 people and stranded hundreds of thousands. The flood waters have washed away millions of hectares of crops, submerged villages and destroyed roads and bridges. Disease is rampant among Pakistani flood victims, while the possibility of dams bursting in the south looms large over the devastated country.
With more than 33,300 locations in 92 countries including the Middle East, the SUBWAY restaurant chain is the world’s largest submarine sandwich franchise. Headquartered in Milford, Connecticut, the SUBWAY chain was co-founded by Fred DeLuca and Dr. Peter Buck in 1965. The partnership, which continues today, marked the beginning of a remarkable journey — one that made it possible for thousands of individuals to build and succeed in their own business.
The SUBWAY brand has been honored as the number one franchise opportunity in Entrepreneur magazine's ’Annual Franchise 500’ listing for 17 of the past 23 years.
