Thai store chain CP All Q4 net profit more than doubles

Guest post by: Dhawal Shah

Article Overview: 18th February 2010: CP ALL Bangkok, Thailand's largest convenience store chain, reported on Thursday that its fourth-quarter earnings more than doubled, beating analysts' forecast, thanks to a rise in sales and better gross margins. CP All, a proxy for domestic consumption in Thailand, posted an October-December net profit of 1.09 billion baht ($32.86 million), up from 509 million baht a year earlier, but lower than the 1.42 billion in the previous quarter.

Thai store chain CP All Q4 net profit more than doubles

According to Thomson Reuters StarMine SmartEstimates, which predicts future earnings by putting more weight on recent forecasts by top-rated analysts, CP All had been forecast to post a net profit of 1.07 billion baht for the quarter and 4.8 billion for 2009. Its full-year profit of 4.99 billion baht was higher than the 3.3 billion baht in 2008.

Analysts expect to see further earnings growth in 2010. It has been resilient during the economic downturn, has a strong balance sheet and is debt free, allowing for sustainable dividends, they said.

As the operator of the 7-Eleven franchise in Thailand, CP All runs more than 5,000 convenience stores and is the world's third-largest store network behind Japan's Seven & I Holdings and 7-Eleven Inc in the United States. CP All stock rose 23.4 percent in the fourth quarter, outperforming the main Thai stock index .SETI, which climbed 2.4 percent. ($1 = 33.17 Baht)

To get the quickest return.... open an Ebay store? To get the quickest return.... open an Ebay store? - As anyone who lives near a CompUSA store knows, the whole chain is going out of business, and have been since December. When I visited them then, they were only offering 10% off, and I didn't bother to buy anything. Today, stuff was at 20% to 40% off. Unfortunately, digital cameras were only at 20% off, nevertheless I bought a ViviCam 7320 for $103 (befor taxes.) The store normally sells them for $129.99. (And, amusingly, I just checked Amazon and I could have bought a new one there for $99! Course I'd've had to pay postage... And of course it's thanks to the discount stuff offered by Amazon et al that Comp USA has been driven out of business.) Back to the topic. My store is going to stay open til everything is sold, so there's a possibility that things'll get down to 50% to 75% off. So if one had some money to invest, one could buy various things at those prices , and then sell at Ebay for a profit. Now, I'm not knowledgeable enough about electronics to know which things are going to be supplanted soon by newer models...but someone who did could go into [i:2elpuknb]their [/i:2elpuknb]store and perhaps make a killing? And then, sell it all again on Ebay for a profit? Similarly, one could keep an eye out for all "going out of business" sales, invest a grand in likely looking stuff that has been deeply discounted, and sell that stuff on ebay as well.
Re: Are you a Blue, Red, or Green? Re: Are you a Blue, Red, or Green? - My Structogram self analysis showed I'm majority Red-Green with a fair bit of Blue. While our crew at Happy Worker found this intriguing by itself, what I've been most excited about is the potential for improving our sales process results. For example, we've heard of a retail chain that redesigned their store layouts based on Structogram profiles. They strategically displayed certain areas of their stores to fit different personalities - e.g. Red areas featured the most high end/hip designs with best of strength/speed/performance summarized, Blue areas had lots of technical analysis and comparisons, and Greens saw the products used in social settings with its human/ergonomic features emphasized. The cool part of course is that the chain was able to have their prospects self-categorize themselves by what area of the store they were attracted to, and their sales staff were trained in identifying and working with each type of person. Which unsurprisingly led to a significant increase in sales. In our new sales process we've included several questions and actions to help hypothesize our prospects' Structogram type, to help us best support them through the rest of the pathway. We're also looking at what web site changes we can make to ensure we're appealing to and supporting all types!

Drop the business Drop the business - Hi Kevin If I had no other alternatives I would continue to research the idea, maybe thinking about a different angle that I hadn't considered before to reach a more beneficial position. However if I had alternatives I would drop the idea until I thought of a more profitable way of doing things. For example I could buy cheap products in the store and sell it on eBay for a profit of around $20 each but it seems too much work since I currently sell a service for 40x that amount for only 3x more time required.
