Videocon to launch mobile services in Mumbai, Chennai next month
Although the company has not fixed any date for launching its services, it is planning to increase the number of its retail outlets across the country to facilitate its foray. “We are launching our GSM mobile services by next month in Mumbai and Chennai which will require us to add more outlets. We are planning to add approximately 500 or more outlets across the country over a year,” said SM Hegde, director, Videocon Group.
Mumbai is one of the busiest telecom circles in India, which delivers a large chunk of revenues to various mobile operators. Average revenue per user (ARPU) of many mobile operators in India is highest in the Mumbai circle. Earlier this month, while speaking with PTI in Davos, Videocon Industries' president and vice chairman Pradeepkumar N Dhoot had said that the company plans to cover the entire country with its GSM mobile services within the next 18 months.
Datacom, a subsidiary of Videocon Group, was one of the eight new operators who were given licences in January 2008 to provide nationwide cellular services. Datacom has now been renamed as Videocon Telecommunication Ltd, which has earmarked an investment of Rs9,000 crore and is looking at becoming profitable in three-five years.
Currently, Videocon owns about 350 retail outlets and has 350 franchise outlets across India. It has three retail brands under its portfolio DIGIworld, NEXT Retail India Ltd and Planet M. However, the company says that the number of new retail outlets could go up, depending on demand. “We might increase the number of outlets from 500 to 1,000 according to the demand in the market,” said Mr Hegde.
Videocon is planning to invest about Rs20 crore-Rs25 crore annually into its retail business, he added.
Videocon’s NEXT Retail is a multi-brand and multi-product showroom, Planet M is a music retail & electronic appliance showroom and DIGIworld is the company’s own brand retail business. DIGIworld has a major presence in North India.

Re: Mobile Marketing
- Top 10 trends in the mobile application in 2012
What is most interesting to us mobile marketers is what lands at # 2 and # 3 spots on his list. "Mobile Search", "location-based services," and also, the place n. # 8 is our favorite of my "mobile advertising." last round after this morning's location based on 1020 funding Placecast poster supports the thesis that when it comes to phones, people expect to be able to discover things around them. That makes sense - after all, what good is a mobile device if you can not access the information you need right now?
Gartner reports that location services will be "one of the most disturbing in the coming years." Gartner predicts that the LBS user base of 96 million global growth in 2009 to more than 526 million by 2012. "His value to the user high is the result of its ability to meet a variety of needs, ranging from productivity and fullfillment target social networking and entertainment."
Mobile Search, which Gartner says is a fundamental purpose "to drive sales and marketing opportunities in the mobile phone," now just need the user experience. Once "the industry improves the user experience of mobile search to get people back again," Gartner predicts it will be the third most popular application in 2012.
Getting to # 8, mobile advertising is no joke. Total spending on mobile advertising in 2008 was $ 530.2 million, which Gartner expects to grow to $ 7.5 billion in 2012. "Mobile advertising is an important way to monetize the mobile Internet content, applications and offering free services to end users. The mobile channel will be used as part of the largest advertising campaigns in various media, including television, radio, print and outdoor, "says Gartner.
Here's the full top 10 types of future mobile applications, according to Gartner:
1. Money transfer
2. Location Based Services
3. Mobile Search
4. Mobile Browsing
5. Mobile health monitoring
6. Mobile Payment
7. Near field communication services
8. Mobile Advertising
9. Mobile Instant Messaging
Mobile Internet Viewing
- A few years ago (2001 - 2002) there was a lot of talk about creating websites for mobile phones using technology called WAP which I considered to learn but never got around to it.
I don't believe you should even consider creating an optimised website for mobile viewing at the moment unless you are offering ring tone downloads or something for use directly on a mobile phone.
Another exception is if your target market uses mobile internet but again this would only be for ringtone, theme downloads etc because I know most people would not use their mobile phone for book reviews or stories for example.
Re: Can you outsource your product launch?
- [quote="ideasuniversity":i1rccw4s]I am thinking if it is possble to outsource ones product launch to an expert if you don't know how. If it is possible who among us here are good in this aspect[/quote:i1rccw4s]
If you are talking about the promotion to launch a new product or service, most definitely. I do that with authors and am working with other business people to create an online buzz to launch their products or services.
If that's not what you're thinking - can you give more details?

Re: The Mobile Marketing
- I just read an interesting statistic the other day. According to IBM's fourth annual Cyber Monday Benchmark for 2011, there was an increase in the use of mobile devices for Cyber Monday shopping purposes. 10.8% of people used a mobile device to visit the websites of retailer's whom they were interested in buying from. That statistic is up 3.9% from 2010's Cyber Monday. Actual sales from a mobile device increased from 2.3% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2011.
I definitely think this trend is going to continue to grow, and businesses can find advantages from doing things for the mobile world. Whether it's mobile websites, mobile apps, text message marketing, whatever it may be, this stuff is, as GT Bulmer said, [quote:19cah8ra]a forward moving trend.[/quote:19cah8ra]
MLM Marketing, youtube, and buzzirk mobile.
- Hello fellow money makers.
I have spent the last few days reading this forum soaking up the tips and knowledge, and thought i would give back a little. ( by the way that 70 Do Follow social sites? GENIUS)
I have found that google adsense, coupled with GlobalVerge's MLM marketing for the upcoming Buzzirk mobile launch have been a boon to my online marketing. With commisions on the rise, and youtube videos published from the company themselves, the sales are selling themselves.
Do any of you have experience with the MLM style marketing, or with buzzirk mobile in general? I have heard many good things, and have even made a decent paycheck so far, but i wanted to get some feedback from the community and see if anyone has heard anything noteworthy.
Thanks for your time,
Ruhk
