Home-Based Businesses Offer Flexibility & Play an Important Role in the Economy

With computers and the Internet powering practically every function of every business, it's little wonder that many companies no longer require traditional office space to succeed in the current marketplace. From large corporations to small startups, employees, executives and business owners are conducting business from home offices. In a virtual age where people have become accustomed to instantly connecting with others from around the globe, home-based businesses have become widely accepted and play an important role in the economy. More than half of all U.S. businesses are based out of the owner's home. Fortunately, with the wide-range of home-based franchise opportunities that are available, you don't have to have an ingenious idea for a new business to experience the freedom and flexibility of being your own boss and working from home.

In addition to the lifestyle benefits that home-based concepts offer, they also provide you with significant competitive advantages. When it comes to boosting a business's bottom-line, minimizing fixed costs can provide some of the most significant gains. Home-based franchises and business opportunities typically require low-overhead because the expenses associated with traditional office space are eliminated. Without costly real estate and utility fees, and maintenance and equipment expenses detracting from the bottom-line, home-based businesses can not only remain viable, but they can also gain a powerful competitive edge in the marketplace.

Work from home franchises feature business models that are specifically designed to be run from a home office and opportunities exist in some of the most in-demand, fastest-growing industries. With employers implementing drug-free programs in an effort to maximize productivity, and parents becoming extremely concerned about the devastating impact that drug abuse can have on their children's lives, the demand for drug testing services is soaring. The Drug Test Consultant (DTC) business opportunity provides aspiring business owners with the chance to own a much-needed, rewarding business. The home-based concept can be run on a full- or part-time basis and in addition to offering clients home drug testing services, workplace drug testing programs, background checks and more, DTC associates also provide people with peace of mind and the information necessary to properly address drug abuse problems.

Establishing and maintaining an effective online presence is also essential to companies' growth and productivity, and large and small companies are increasingly turning to Internet marketing professionals for help in this area. AIS Media is a leading Internet solutions provider that's been featured in The Wall Street Journal, on CNN and CNBC. AIS Media's eBusiness Solutions Provider (eBSP®) licensing program lets prospective business owners become part of the flourishing Internet marketing industry while operating a home-based business. Previous experience isn't required as AIS Media handles all of the technical aspects of the business.

Commercial cleaning is another industry that has demonstrated tremendous staying power. With constant and ongoing demand, commercial cleaning has proven to be a recession-tolerant business. ServiceMaster Clean is a well-known commercial cleaning franchise that offers would-be franchisees the opportunity to own a home-based concept that clients rely upon, regardless of economic fluctuations. And ServiceMaster's trusted reputation and established business system provides franchisees with a considerable competitive edge in the marketplace.

Whether you'd like to experience the freedom of working from home, or the prospect of owning a low-overhead concept appeals to you, there are many options to choose from. Willing to Fail Your Way to Success Willing to Fail Your Way to Success - Entrepreneurs in my opinion, must be willing to fail. (This is that risk-taking factor quoted in the other post). If you aren't willing to fail then you don't take risks and if you don't take risks you do I like to call (I am qouting an awesome book called Play to Win!) 'Playing Not to Lose' instead of 'Playing to Win'. When you Play to Win you must risks. Risks are how you build a business and innovate.
Re: What works for you? Re: What works for you? - Hi Yinka, I work better under pressure of deadlines when I am doing something for other people. However, I like to have the leisure to develop my own projects. The first case is what Stephen Covey calls a "Quadrant 1" activity ("Important and urgent") whereas the second case is a "Quadrant 2" activity ("Important, not urgent"). We should aim to make as much time as possible for Q2 activities so that we can develop our own projects. Easier said than done!
